NAKHON SI THAMMARAT — Police say they have arrested five people, including two minors, who allegedly stole assault rifles from a police base in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

According to police, the five suspects broke into the arsenal of a Border Patrol Police command center in Thung Song district, stole the weapons, and sold them in the black market to buy narcotics.

Two of the suspects are 16, and the rest are 19, 33, and 40, said said Pol.Maj.Gen. Kiattipong Khaosam-ang, commander of the police force in the region.

One of the teenagers is the son of a police officer stationed in the base, he said.

"Based on our investigation, the crime was initiated out of recklessness," said Pol.Maj.Gen. Kiattipong.

And they call this "reckless"? It takes a lot of gall to go into a police station and steal assault rifles then sell them on the black market. It seems to me that if the kids knew who would buy such weapons that his father could pay him to trap them. Then the issue with using money to buy drugs speaks a lot about how much discipline the son of a policeman is getting.

"One of the teenagers is the son of a police officer stationed in the base, he said."

Of course, he had nothing to do with it.....

Well here's the twist, some may recall the news about 18 months ago of a police officer in Pattaya who got caught selling stolen hand guns. His records showed in the several months prior to getting caught he had sold 160 stolen handguns, mostly to teenagers.

Preposterous reporting of a very alarming Thai theft of weapons grade arms from Thai army property in the Thai south. Five suspects an three were criminals of age not minors. Why not release the three names? One minor was the son of a police officer stationed at the base. The theft of assault weapons is characterize as merely a "reckless" act to buy drugs. Preposterous and dangerous j ourani
