Thai Car Dealers are Crooks ? - Range Rover Evoque

Featured Replies

As the subject suggests it appears that after so many years here I have finally met a Thai crook masquerading as a car Dealer. The gentlemen goes by the name of Mr Off. Ye I know it should be Mr F Off but seriously this guy is nothing but a crook.

Due to sudden personal circumstances I am having to sell reluctantly my 2012 Range Rover Evoque. It is an immaculate 2012 Prestige model and after some negotiation we agreed a price, both signed a purchase contract and he paid me a very small deposit. The sale was due to be finalised tomorrow yet today he has said he don't know if he wants to buy because he made a mistake. However he will buy if I agree a further 200,000 baht reduction.

Now we all know many Thais are fine people but conversely there also a lot of crooks, Mr Off appearing to be one of the latter and wanting a huge reduction at the last minute.

Now my view is that if he fails to pay then he is in Breach of Contract. Has anybody else had the misfortune to deal with this "Mr Off" in Bangkok or have had a similar thing done to them ? If so what steps did you take ? Of course if he fails to honour the contract he shall forfeit his deposit but at the end of the day it is very annoying as I need to sell the car and now another week is wasted.

Why do you make the association between this man's apparent reneging on contract and being Thai? this sort of thing happens worldwide.

Why do you make the association between this man's apparent reneging on contract and being Thai? this sort of thing happens worldwide.

Because the crook in this case is Thai and it is in Thailand. I have never had this happen in any other country I have lived in.

so from your individual experience you conclude that Thais are crooks and the rest of the world is fine?

methinks you need to learn a bit about a bit of critical thinking. - start with "my cat has 4 legs"

And I suggest you respond to questions rather then tangentially, but there again from your response it appears you are somewhat literally challenged when it comes to understanding the topic, context and references made within.

"somewhat literally challenged" - yet you wrote this???

..and I think you need to look up "tangential" - (re - "Thai Car Dealers are Crooks")

Keep his small deposit and cancel the contract. Move on..

Is the car still in your possession?

If not I don't think there is much you can do.

If you still have the car tell him you have had a 200,000 Bt. better offer and if he matches it you will sell him the car.

Funny but most of my family here in the UK is involved in motor industry in one way or another and I can tell you that getting cheated in the motor trade in the UK is rife. Funnily enough though I never had any major trouble with it in over 10 years of living in Thailand thumbsup.gif

Guess I'm just lucky then biggrin.png

Whatever, maybe mr Off had a buyer to on-sell it to, but that fell through (most likely), and now needs to protect himself because he could be holding onto the inventory for months or years.

Bottom line is, the penalty for breach of sale contract like this is loss of deposit paid.

Keep the deposit and go find another buyer if you think it will get you the missing 200K, otherwise accept his revised offer and sell the car :)
