Hi to all

I have a plastic prosthethic eye that started falling out a few days ago ,and now the cover and glass ball have fallen out completely and i have

it has been diagnosed as needing 2-3+hrs of surgery to rebuild the eye socket

with tissue and fat taken from a graft of another area inside your mouth etc and stitch

the globe (glass ball) onto the eye muscles and nerves etc (aparently its a time consuming operation )

They say its become infected and im on antibiotics at the moment but most of the available

specilalists are either on holiday or leaving soon and apparently this will require follow up consultations with the surgeon

twice a week for a couple of months none of them want to start the procedure

im starting to worry about the cost especially if they drag it out for a few months to maximise the profits but i realise its something that has to be

done as its becoming more painful and the quotes have been 120k up to several hundred k with varying methods and procedures

do you have any recommendations for a government or cheaper private hospital that would have an ocular surgeon available ASAP ?

best wishes

Yes, it would help to know where yo uhave already been.

Rutnin is the usual go-to place for eye. Would suggest Dr. Nattawut Wanumkarng there (he is also at Bumrungrad but that hospital is more expensive than Rutnin as a rule). He is also at this place, no idea how it compares price wise to Rutnin and Bumrungrad http://www.thaieye.com/location

In terms of government hospitals:

1 - There is a government eye, ear nose & throat hospital, you might try there. expect red tape and long waits initially and if possible have a Thai speaker come with you. Once you actually meet the correct specialist it will get easier. http://www.eent.co.th/home.html (website is in Thai but address at phone number shown at the bottom. It is on the Thonburi side of the river.

2 - Another possibility would be Chulalongkhorn Hospital which is on Rama IV. They have an after hours semi-private channel whereby you can consult some of their top specialists by appointment - have to go and register for a patient number on the ground floor of the OPD building during normal hours then go up to the 13th floor and ask the nurses there to get you an appointment with an ocular plastic surgeon, preferrably Dr. PREAMJIT SAONANON if available. For this too, a Thai speaker is helpful. The after hours clinic starts from 4 PM. Or you could just go through the public channel at their opthalmology dept but longer waits and less personalized attention.

I understand your anxiety and wish for the problem to be resolved.

However this is not an "emergency" and I would suggest you arrange a date for treatment with Rutnin which enjoys an outstanding reputation.

I understand its not an emergency although the doctors have all prescribed antibiotics and eye drops ,gel and foam etc

as there is signs of infection on the other eye as well

invisible to me but they can see it with their magnification equipment

the surgeon i spoke with at rutnin is willing to do it and i would be happy to let him do it as he seems to know his job very well

but he doesnt want to start until he comes back so he can be around if theres any issues ,i will see how it goes .......
