Army bans firecracker sales in deep South during Ramadan

YALA, 6 June 2015 (NNT) – The Army Region 4 has imposed a ban on fire cracker sales in all Southern border provinces during Ramadan.

Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for the Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command, said the ban was to enable Muslim fellows to perform religious practices undisturbed during the holy fasting period. The start of Ramadan will be determined after the moon is observed on June 17.

The ban will come into effect seven days before the arrival of the Ramadan month. During this period, any sales or distribution of firecrackers or other items of the same nature will be strictly prohibited until the end of the fasting month.

Those flouting the rule will be subject to a fine or a jail term, or both. /

Oh, absolutely; there's nowt worse than a disturbed Muslim fellow during Ramadan and, besides, firecrackers and the like would make it difficult to locate other types of explosions. If it makes the area more peaceful perhaps a permanent ban might be a good idea.

Why not every one is a Muslim, The same could be said with the loud speaker prayers, what about the non Muslims who want some peace and quite too instead of listening to that all the time, lets not upset the Muslims

"On the 27th day of Ramadan, fireworks are often set off to celebrate the night of power-the night that Muhammed first received revelation of the Koran in 610....The end of Ramadan is a joyous occasion known as Eid-el-Fitr, typically lasting three days. It is known as the festival of ever-recurring happiness and is celebrated with special prayers, feasts, sweets and gift giving." http://www.mideastweb.org/ramadan.htm

Let the Muslims have their fireworks!

The army ban is simply disguised religious discrimination by a Buddhist society and fear of bombs being made from fireworks. If Ramadan were a Buddhist event there would be no such ban.

Leave it to the Junta to pretend it is actually supporting muslims in the South.
