Re-enter on re-entry permit before visa expires allowed?

Featured Replies

My multi entry 1 year business visa (no work permit) expires early September and I am turning 50 late September so want to do an extension of stay based on retirement around October 1st

So I need to re-enter Thailand on about August 1st so that I'll have 30 days left on October 1st to get my retirement extension.

But I will need to leave thailand again in August and be returning before the visa expires.

Will I be able to use a re entry permit when my visa is still valid?

I must do my retirement extension early October so can't afford to restart the 90 days when I come back mid late August.

Question -- don't you have to get a NEW O visa in order to change your reason of extension from business to retirement?

I recall last extension I was made to sign a form saying something like that.

Whether you will be able to extend you last non-b visa entry based upon retirement will depend upon your local immigration office's policy. Some will do it while others will not. You need to check with them about doing it. I they will not do it you will need to get a non-o visa.

You can get another 90 day entry as long as you do an entry on or before the enter before date on your visa. You can get a re-entry permit for that last entry to keep it valid if you need to travel.

Do you know if Bangkok will allow it?

And are you saying there's no problem re-entering on a re entry permit while the visa is still valid and. It NOT changing the date I am allowed to stay?

I do not want to re enter after the visa expires but before it expires. I don't want my last trip to change the date of the 90 days I can stay.

Thanks

Jomtien.

I think it was about what the extension was about.

It seemed like a real official wording which I assumed was national.

In other words, saying you can't change the reason of your extension without a new visa.

It's not clear to me whether you are here now on a visa or an extension.

Sorry if this isn't relevant to you, I'm not sure, or I might be confused by what I signed.

There have been reports of Bangkok refusing to do an extension based upon retirement with a non-b visa entry. You will likely have to go out for a single entry non-o visa or just leave and re-enter the country after you visa expires to get a visa exempt entry and do a conversion to a non immigration visa within 15 days of entry.

You could get and use a re-entry permit before the visa expires.

Thanks for letting me know. In this case I'll either leave it for later or see if I can do it in Chiang Mai as I spend time there too.
