Do I need to cancel my Ed Visa before leaving TOMORROW?

Featured Replies

Hello, I just heard about the "cancellation letter" to end an ED visa. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon, June 10th, and returning to Thailand on July 23rd. My ED visa expires August 8th.
I was planning to get a double or triple entry visa in Vancouver, Canada while I was visiting home (I live in Washington State, in the USA near Canada).
I don't know if I'll have time to cancel my visa tomorrow before I leave. I had assumed leaving without getting the re-entry permit would cancel it, is that not true?

I'd like to avoid any problems when I show up in Vancouver to get a tourist visa.

Another option for me would be to get a re-entry permit for my ed visa. Or maybe I could not get the re-entry permit and just come back on a 30 day "Visa Exemption". But I'd prefer to get the Tourist Visa in Vancouver.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your thoughts and advice!

I'm leaving from Chiang Mai, flying to China. Yes, I have an ED Visa, and have seen other threads about the "cancellation letter". Thank you.

Don't listen to this guy, he's playing with you

You probably have an EXTENSION of your ED visa.

You don't need anything unless you are exiting the country in NONGKHAI

Nongkhai is the only reported place in the world making ED visa holders's life harder.

all land border are asking for that letter.

If you fly out than there will be no problem.

That is news to me.

A few teachers, including myself, on extensions of stay on this tread have come across this.

I didn't experience this but a colleague did.

For extensions based upon working/teaching the only recent reports I have seen were at Nong Khai and Mukdahan.

For ED extensions only Nong Khai has been reported as asking for them.

Clearly you have not discovered that Mukdahan is the Thai border crossing to Laos where Savannakhet is to be found.

I think many teachers are on ED visas, don't ask me why.

I didn't know that. I've never had any reason to visit Issan.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I guess because I am not familiar with Issan, I am not qualified to teach. I'll hand in my notice today. giggle.gif

I am not trying to be critical, but it is not necessary to go to Mukdahan to get to Savannakhet or cross into Laos by a land border. It is entirely possible if you want to fly directly from Bangkok to Savannakhet, by a Lao Air flight daily..... the flight from Bangkok to Vientianne stops at Savannakhet.

"the flight from Bangkok to Vientianne stops at Savannakhet." not according to Lao Airlines it doesn't ;

I hope the "teaching" is not based on "opinion"" and un-verified "fact" coffee1.gif
