CHIANG MAI — Police say they have arrested two men for taking nude photos in front of various landmarks in Chiang Mai province and posting them on social media.

The two 20-year-old suspects, named Haripachara Bhupansamrit and Surapong Khaopong, reportedly confessed after being charged with public indecency, said Pol.Maj.Gen. Pacha Rattapan, deputy commander of Fifth Region Police. The charge carries a 500 baht fine.

"They committed the crime out of recklessness after drinking alcohol," the officer said, adding that the two suspects also expressed their apology to people of Chiang Mai.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Pacha said police used a variety of methods to identify the two men, including forensic examination of the photos they took, witnesses' testimonies, CCTV footage, and other data collected from social media.

Good to see that the BIB are prioritizing the really huge crimes. and never mind some murder of a insignificant farang lady, since that does not bring the same amount of shame as some pictures of OMG a naked body.

Sounds like a lot of police resources spent for such petty "crimes". And i do use the word loosely.

Also 500b fine is ridiculous. How could it deter anybody from doing anything

It is a statement that this is not acceptable behavior. It isn't a big deal but without some sort of show that it won't be tolerated the idiots of the world will continue to try and top each other with these kind of antics. Next thing you know, if you don't have a video of you streaking through wat doi suthep you haven't really been to Chiang Mai.

A little bit of resources now is a good investment to head off possibly having to chase streakers in front of every tourist attraction for years.

But, but (butt), there were no reports of natural disasters as a result of those photographs !

WOW the BIB is getting to be just like the RCMP they always get their man. Perchance his name is Sergeant Bullmoose. 500 baht fine incredible. Pretty cheap for 15 minutes of fame. Now if you believe that I have some swampland in Louisiana for sale.

Committing a crime out of recklessness after drinking alcohol covers a lot of activities.

Indeed, and I have a little inkling the report is somewhat coy about what those activities might have been whistling.gif

I think its all a sham...... If we don't see a line-up with all the police behind and pointing at the naked perps, we know its not for real.....See even falangs can learn how the system works.

Oh lawd ,we don't want the BIB pointing at the naked perps , nor any other part of them.

Naked photos draw the ire from the police, but karaoke rip offs continue to flourish..... hmmmm now which is more damaging to Chiang Mai? I see CM land establishments have had another media frenzy due to these scum.

Methinks some priorities need re-adjusting in the police focus on crime

If the guys posting the photos had the same 'special arrangements' with the police that the karaoke bars do, they would have had nothing to worry about.
