PHUKET: -- A hoard of identity cards, including one issued to a foreigner, as well as driver’s licenses and ATM cards was found dumped at an illegal trash site in Karon this morning (June 12).

A local resident who discovered the items in a plastic bag at the site, behind the Kata Center shopping complex, reported his find, resulting in a Navy troop on patrol in the area being called to the scene.

Among the items found, 14 were identification cards that are still valid, six driving permits, a foreigner’s identification card, eight ATM cards, reported Sub-Lt Taksin Puklim.

“There was also a bankbook for an account that apparently still had a balance B10,000,” he said.

All the items found will be handed to the Karon police, Sub-Lt Taksin confirmed.

“The police will handle the investigation,” he said. “This is not normal. We want to know who dumped these items here and whether it was the work of a criminal or thief after committing a crime.”

So much for privacy concerns, now the whole world can make copies of those cards... and the Finland drivers licence even shows a clear copy of the guys signature, date of birth and lots of other personal data.

Considering how close a watch Thailand has on its citizens and tourist, in theory anyway, surely they should be attempting to get in touch with the cardholders and not displaying their private information online for all to see.

This photograph should never have been published and the police and Phuket News should know better.

Agree ... The Finland Guys info is perfect to streal his identity - a Little like when Immigration reuse the backside of eg. documents from app of extension with all sorts of personal info ... Where else would that happen ..clap2.gif

One has to yet again wonder at the intelligence, integrity and professionalism of the Phuket Police and the editor of the Phuket News. Publishing photographs of items which clearly reveal personal information about, one would imagine, innocent victims of crime, to such a degree, particularly in the case of the driving licence of the Finnish guy, is unforgivably naive and irresponsible. The opportunity this gives for identity theft are unquestionable. I continue to despair.

I am sure many of these people who had there ID/wallets stolen reported it to the police.

As mentioned above looks like the discard from a group of pick-pockets. They will get

to the bottom of it if they deem it important enough. whistling.gif

If they were to find all the owners, it would be interesting to see how many of them reported the crime to police.
