'Civic' will not replace 'people' in charter draft
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC)'s drafting panel spokesman Lt-General Nawin Damrikan said yesterday the panel had decided to keep the word "civic" in the draft, though it will not replace the word "people" in every provision.

He said the draft charter will also uphold the principle of the state supporting the civic movement and public participation in the country's political and national affairs.

He added that the CDC had met on Wednesday to consider the amendments suggested by the National Reform Council and the Cabinet. However, he said, details of the amendments could not be revealed, but insisted that the charter draft stuck by its key principles.
