3D movies - how to view?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but how does one view a movie online in 3D? When I stream I get two images side by side, but what am I supposed to do with them to see a single image in 3D?

Any hints would save me a great deal of time thanks. (BTW- attached capture is for this questions purpose only, and I've no intention of watching this movie!)

Right, put this on a flash drive, or network drive, and play it back on a TV that supports 3D - this particular case, a TV that supports 3D SBS (Side by Side) - which most do.

If you want to watch in on a 2D display/computer - you might be able to get it viewable with a combination of pan, crop and stretch controls in your player or display - i.e. pan it to only one side (Left or RIght), then stretch the width to 200%.

If you do not have a 3D TV but have red/cyan 3d glasses you can use VLC media Player (Tools/EffectsandFilters/Videoeffects/Advanced) to enable Anaglyph 3D .

Play the file and it will convert SBS to Anaglyph viewable on any 2D display.. Some loss of colours but watchable and cheaper than buying 3d TV

Also viewable with Google Cardboard and an android phone that fits into it.

Some Internet user: "...used the CMOAR virtual cinema software on Android to watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 3D with Google Cardboard. The android software would split the movie into separate images for your left and right eyeballs to view - so a 3D movie would appear as intended, with different images for each eye."

BTW

Mark my works, by the end of the 50's this gimmick will just be another passing fad.

3D movies will be out of favor and widescreen features will become the dominant viewing format for moviegoers.

Hey, thanks guys that's a great help. Understood now. We don't have a 3D TV which is probably why I didn't understand the stream, never been interested as I expect it to be a passing fad as said,

I think I will try a pair of cheap red/cyan specs to view it when I can get time or try and make a Google box. I have only ever watched one movie in 3D (Avatar) at a cinema and never been tempted to try again. Just wanted to lets the kids experience for themselves and make their own minds up.

Thanks again for the replies.

3D TV isn't a passing fad...it's a past fad.

No matter how much hype the TV manufactures could create, still didn't make a mongrel into a pure bred!

..... Until Avatar 2 and 3 are released. Then you'll see sets flying off the shelves again, especially as they'll be the cheap alternative to UHD.

Highly unlikely you're going to be able to buy a 1080P 3D set in 2017 mate ;)

I don't share your pessimism (or is it optimism?).

I don't think they ever flew off the shelves, even after all the hype, so don't hold your breath for 3D 2.0...
