PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – In the third traffic accident in two months involving independent political figures, a bus carrying the Venerable But Buntenh, a well-known dissident Buddhist monk, crashed on its way to Prey Lang forest.

In the accident, the monk’s 45-seat bus crashed into a large truck that was parked on the road. The Venerable, who leads the Independent Monk Network for Social Justice, said that several monks traveling with him suffered minor injuries.

The Venerable had intended to protest illegal logging by leading a 100-monk march Friday through a section of Prey Lang forest. The monks then planned to return to the capital to submit a protest petition to the National Assembly.
