Featured Replies

What would you call one of those magnetic ball and cup type gadgets that hold doors open?

Thanks

Oops - see this is language section - did not notice that before.

Thanks but what would I call it in Thai?

I've learnt to not always trust direct translations for this kind of thing.

Think I've managed to work it out.

ที่ยึดประตู

Finding the right word for holder was the sticky bit.

Agree - some of the Lazada translations of Thai are really off the wall when Google automatically translates. Am sure this happens both ways. But for shopping perhaps a photo is worth a thousand words.

I've used the show a photo technique many a time before but I do like to at least try asking in Thai first.

กันชนประตูแม่เหล็ก (kan chon pratu mae lek), literally: "bumper door magnetic")

Here you can listen to the single words:

(for กันชน you have to click on the word)

A quality product from Haefele:

Do you have a Haefele store in your region?

More choices at this (online?) shop:

(not all magnetic)

(that was not easy facepalm.gif )

กันชนประตูแม่เหล็ก (kan chon pratu mae lek), literally: "bumper door magnetic")

Nice vocabulary addition. Even more literally "door collision preventing magnet".

Indeed,

กัน prevent

ชน hit, bump, collide

and understood as "bumper" in this combination.

Its also used in the context of cars/pickups for car bumper, bullbar, grill guard. and the like.

Home Hub, Home Pro, Global House and numerous other big stores around here.

Couple of ways to express it now so should find one easily enough now.
