Hi,

My Non-B extension and WP expire in January 2016.

Will I have to get both of them revoked beforehand

if I leave Thailand a few weeks or a month before

the expiry date or be able to just leave the country

without doing this?

Thank you in advance.

Whether you need to have your extension of stay (not a visa) canceled will depend upon where you leave the country. At the airport it is not a requirement. At some border crossings they will want it to be cancelled or see a termination letter from you employer.

The work permit does not have to be canceled to leave.

Hi ubonjoe,

Thank you for your info.

To be honest I'm not yet sure now. I might cross one of the border crossings.

Can I get it cancelled upon arrival at the border crossing or will I have to do

it at the immigration office beforehand? Or will it be alright if I have a termination

letter from my employer on me?

Thank you.

At this time only Nong Khai and Mukdahan has been asking for the termination letter. They send you back to the immigration office near the bridge to have it cancelled.

The best way to do it is to get the termination letter and go to immigration a few days before the effective date on it and they will post date the cancellation to that date..

Hi ubonjoe,

Thanks for your info!

Can you get it cancelled at any immigration office in Thailand?

Will that have to be a few days before the expiry date? Will it be

possible if it's a week or two before that?

I might leave office a few weeks before the expiry date, go to the

immigration for the cancellation with a termination letter from my

employer which says that I will leave office 2 weeks later, right on

the expiry date, so that I can travel in Thailand for a while. Do you

think this possible?

Thank you.

Was in the same boat about 2 weeks ago. Went to Hat Yai at the Malaysian border. They did not ask to see a termination letter. I actually went 11 days after I quit my job. I didn't do the 7 day extension and was concerned I would be in the system and have to pay overstay or be penalized for not leaving within 24 hours of terminating employment. Nothing happened.

You have to cancel it at the immigration office where you got your extension. How early you can do it will depend upon the office you go to.

The cancellation date can be at any time during your extension.

Thank you all for your info.

I'll ask them how early I can cancel it when I go to the immigration office for the

next 90-day report.

What should I do with my work permit then? Can I keep it or should I give it to

my employer who will cancel it for me?

You can cancel your work permit yourself and keep it if you want to after it is cancelled. Or let your employer cancel it.

Hi ubonjoe,

Thanks for your info.

I'll let my employer cancel my WP for me because this seems easier.

Can I cancel my WP on my own at the Labour Office a few days

before the expiry date like my extension at the immigration office?

Nong Khai is no longer asking for the termination letter, though of course that may change :-)

I have only heard of that for an education extension not for one based upon working.

Will they cancel my Non-B extension without my WP (cancelled)

or any evidence that I've already got it cancelled?

Is a termination letter from my employer all I have to take to the

immigration office to get the extension revoked?
