Slashing welfare': GOP eyes chopping $5 trillion to pay for Trump priorities — like tax cuts
The sad thing about food stamps is some of the things it covers, like soft drinks, sugar laden candy and cookies, etc. Before the advent of EBT cards, food stamps were traded like currency to buy illegal drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Medical insurance is another area where there is so much waste. People going to the doctor for minor ailments because they have cheap or free medical insurance. Also the amount of fraud is unbelievable. -

Fire Breaks Out in High-Rise Building Near Kalawar Building, Bangkok
Pictures from responders. A fire erupted on the 10th floor of a 15-storey condominium located in Soi Vanich 2, Talad Noi, Samphanthawong district, Bangkok, causing significant damage and leaving one person injured. Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred late morning on January 13. At 11:52 a call was made to the emergency hotline 199, reporting a fire in the high-rise building. Firefighters from the Suan Mali Fire and Rescue Station were the first to arrive, followed shortly by additional teams from the Bang Rak Fire and Rescue Station. Smoke was seen billowing from the 10th floor, prompting a rapid response to rescue residents trapped in the building. At 12:02 rescuers confirmed that people were trapped on the 13th floor. Firefighters successfully evacuated residents, while simultaneously working to extinguish the fire. The source of the fire was identified as Room 130/104 on the 10th floor. Flames completely destroyed the room and spread to the neighbouring unit, Room 129/104, leaving both rooms severely damaged. The fire was brought under control and officials began ventilating the building and conducting final checks for any possible remaining trapped individuals. One person, a woman approximately 50 years old, sustained injuries from smoke inhalation and was promptly transported to IMH Silom Hospital by volunteer rescue workers. Preliminary investigations could not determine the exact cause of the fire due to the extensive damage. Officials from the Suan Mali Fire and Rescue Station have taken responsibility for the area and will conduct further investigations to establish the cause. -- 2025-01-14 -
