It's more likely to cost around ฿1000 to paint a 3 year old truck panel. If this is the only mark on your car after 3 years, Then I suggest that you have been very lucky up until now. Ask the guy to put up ... or write it off. It's not a big deal to have a few marks on a commercial vehicle after a few years. When you get a few more .... Talk to your number one insurers and get them to fix them all in one go. They will sort it, its normal procedure here. We don't come to Thailand to live our stressed out, rectal retentive, and western lives in the midst of potential extacy for the sake of a scratched fender on an old commercial truck.

If you hadn't of stopped it wouldn't have happened.

I certainly wouldn't take kindly to being asked for recompense. You stopped the truck with your dogs in his dogs territory.

Life,s not fair, let it ride,

It wasnt his teritory. It was the road leading into the moo baan where we both live, a good 300 meters from his house. I would have thought i am alowed to stop a car anywhere I like if its a public road?

You see this is why i wanted to check in here first. I was sure that it should be down to him to pay. But that fact that a few people here are now saying he shouldnt is just spinning my head out....

You caused the problem by stopping.

you seem like a right ( insert expletive) youll fit in well here with your not accepting responsibility for a dog running wild.

OP, depending where you live, there is a way to get scratches out, if not too deep.

Just polishing would not do it, but in Pattaya, Soi Neumblawan, all the way down, on the right hand side, there is a car wash which advertises scratch removing.

From memory, 2000 baht, they did my whole car, plus wash, wax and polish.

Im not in Pattaya but thanks for the tip, Ill see if there is anything simmilar in my town.

Pit bulls are killers and should never be out on their own, could be chasing a kid next time, then killing or ripping the kids face off. Dog owners tend to be very defensive and seem to think their dogs can do no wrong, I know what i'd do!

what a load of <deleted>.

IMO you have no case for asking him for money. He didn't deliberately set them on your car and he didn't come out and scratch it himself. Soi dogs are part of Thailand's rich tapestry as is being screwed over for almost anything. Goes with being in Thailand.

You should be happy that now it's scratched you don't have to stress about it any more, and DON'T get it painted, at least unless you want to sell it. Where I live just driving down the road with overgrown trees, soi dogs and badly parked cars is likely to involve getting scratched. Get your car painted today and what are you going to do tomorrow when you get another scratch.

I wish my wife's car would get a scratch as she gets paranoid if I go anywhere near it with anything sharp. If I scatch it first I'll be in the dogbox for a very long time.

I agree. Im not gonna stress about a couple of scratches life is too short. I suppose the point of this whole thread was 'am i being a mug buy letting it go'. I dont care about the scratches too much. I dont even care about paying a few grand to get it sorted. What i do care about is looking like a mug, so before i started kicking off if the guy didnt play, i wanted to make sure i was in the right to do so by asking a few opinions here. Someone else mentioned 'growing a pair' and that just cracks me up because if you knew me, having a pair is not an issue in any way. The way i used to live my life before i settled down and calmed down being in a situation was never a problem for me. But i dont want to make a big deal out of a small thing these days and i dont want to look like a dick amongst my fellow ferang so i wanted a few opinions to see if i would be in the right or not. It has nothing to do with growing a pair i promise you that.

Bottom line - its not a big deal. I dont want this thread to turn into a big long drawn out thing i just wanted a few opinions. Im just gonna let it go now. I spoke to the bloke again this morning, he really is a nice cheery fella i enjoyed chatting to him about all sorts of stuff for half an hour and i would rather make a friend of the guy than start kicking off with him over a couple of small scratches that you can only see when you stand close to the car. We are not talking about deep key-like scratches, just barley scratch the surface scratches it really isnt a big deal now i have had more time to think about it. If he was an arsey bloke who i took a dislike to i would probably kick up a fuss, but he isnt. He seems like a nice friendly chap so im just gonna leave it there.

Thanks for all of the feedback, i wont be checking in on anymore comments now as I will be away for a bit and again, i dont want to make a big long thread about such a small thing so im out of here. Thanks though :)

Cheers everyone

Do you live in Thailand? I think not if you think like that. My soi is full of dogs left to run wild by their owners. If one lives in Thailand one knows that and acts accordingly. If one runs under my wheels I won't be stopping ( unless someone that knows my car sees me do it ).
