Academic concerned drought may affect purchasing power

BANGKOK, 12 July 2015 (NNT) - Director of the Center for Economic and Business Forecasting Thanawat Phonwichai has suggested that the government help the drought-affected by giving them jobs in order to help prevent the countryโ€™s purchasing power from decreasing.

Mr. Thanawat on Sunday said the government could help the drought-affected by hiring them to dig wells or do other tasks to beat drought. Decreasing purchasing power could hurt the overall economy of the country, the academic added.

As for the economic problems of China and Greece, the director expressed his confidence that they would not affect the global economy. He therefore forecast that the Thai export sector would recover in the fourth quarter this year, resulting in better export growth and 2.7-2.9% GDP expansion.
