Audio cd-r discs

Featured Replies

After a long search I have finally found a machine that will enable me to copy some old vinyl I have to cd's. The manual states that this machine will only accept audio cd-r discs. I couldn't find anything on Lazada which surprised me. Does anyone have any suggestions before I start running around to search them out?

Thanks Crossy, I was hoping to avoid ordering them from Amazon but perhaps unavoidable.

Are you in Thailand?

If so go to any computer store or computer area like Panthip Plaza, Fortune Town etc.

Be advised, buy proper brand names and not some of the cheapo stuff, I have used Sony and Maxcell CD Rs for years with no problems.

I saw your post and kept an eye out when walking around Zeer today. I can remember when shops had dozens of stacks of CDs and DVDs on display... not anymore. CDs I saw in the few shops that still had them were Princo and Sony CDR only. Even Amorn and IT City (looking a bit run down btw) only had a couple of packs of CDRs for sale. As Crossy said, looks like you will have to buy from Amazon if you want CDR audio.

Are you able to confirm they have audio cd-r's

Yes, I was in panthip 2 in Bank kapi the other week, they had drums of Sony CD Rs.

Why dont you just download your albums from the internet and store on your hard drive, then copy to either, CDR, USB, or DVD?.

But were they CD-R audio... because unless they specifically state audio or music in the name then they might not be what Khlong Song is after... a stand alone CD recorder isn't always able to use the same CD-R discs you use on a computer.

an Audio cdr can be priced anything between 5 to 10 times to price of any quality branded cdr.

I used to try to buy in bulk, but 5packs were the largest I could ever source on a regular basis. I have since sold my unused 5pks on eBay.

I still look for them on eBay, though if you make it to Australia, they are still easily found in DickSmith stores (TDK branded).

I did manage to buy a TDK 50 tub once from TrickyDickystores, and I'll have a look to see if it's in storage with the rest of my stuff that never got used over the years... there should still be 48 unused discs in that tub. (I used audio cdrs on my Terapin video cd/ audio cd recorder, only a couple of test burns were ever done, as it was never as reliable as simply using a PC burner instead.)

Using a cheap brand audio cdr will turn out to be a waste of your time and energy, given the shorter life of the reflective substrate used in a cheapie.

Yes they were CD R, I have done what the OP proposes to do, it must be done in real time, and frankly is a labour of love.

So unless he is talking about bootlegs or OOP (out of print) albums, much easier to download the album from the internet, then burn to disc (CD R) or whatever.

Yes, some of what I have is out of print and unavailable for download. The machine I have will also copy to my computer so that is also an option. I just got back from looking around the 4th floor at Future Park and audio cd-r's are available but you have to ask. The problem is they are all no-name brands.
