Long jail terms for TrueMove card hackers

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Three men found guilty of fraud in True Move Co's money-top-up electronic card will serve jail terms ranging from five years and four months to 50 years, according to a ruling by the Supreme Court on June 29 that was announced yesterday.

Thaweesap Lalitsasiwimon, Porames Witthayakorn and Chatchai Buranadit were accused of conspiring to hack and forge electronic cards' information in the TrueMove system to lift the top-up value to Bt105 million before selling top-up credits for more than Bt12 million.

Thaweesap, found guilty of hacking and forging information, was originally given a total of 96 years in prison, which was reduced to 64 years, but he will serve 50 years - the maximum under Thai law.

Porames was initially given 32 years in jail, which was reduced to 21 years and four months, while Chatchai, found guilty of aiding the selling, was sentenced to eight years in jail, which was cut to five years and four months.

Maximum penalty for fraud. Minimums or suspended sentences for dangerous driving causing death. Why can't Thai leaders see this horrible injustice. Sad, so sad.

1- One more example of poor journalism

What did these guys?

Did they sell fake set top boxes with fake cards to allow the buyers to get TRUE for free? (so common in Thailand)

2- Who owns TRUE => heavy sentence.

The article is about TrueMove, which is the mobile phone service.

Nothing to do with TrueVisions, which is the TV service with the settop boxes.

I am usually tolerant to the way the legal system operates in any country, not only Thailand, as not all systems operate as they do in the west. However, What planet are these law makers, enforcers and adjudicators on when they dish up sentences like this for non-violent crimes, then fail in their duty when it involves human life. Even though my opinion means squat over here, I find their actions to be morally reprehensible and wonder just how they would react if one of theirs was a victim of the murderous bastards who place little, if any, value on a life.

Kill 9 people driving illegally and you get 2 years suspended. Absolutely ridiculous and immoral

Steal profits from the rich, you are screwed.

Be rich and kill some (in their eyes) peasants, you will walk free.

I hate this world sometimes.

Self serving.

Because they and their HiSo, rich friends are not involved in fraudulently copying True cards...

Causing death on the other hand...

That seems a tad harsh.
