Cambodia grants work permits to 25,000 foreign workers

Featured Replies

The Ministry of Labour granted about 25,000 work permits to foreigners in the first six months of 2015, about 5,000 more than they issued during all of last year.

Minister of Labour Ith Sam Heng yesterday partly credited the jump to a partnership with the Ministry of Interior.

“We have more people applying for employment cards,” Sam Heng said. “This is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Interior.”

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

That would suggest a big upturn in their economy coming soon. Time will tell, but if it's true then Thailand's going to have egg on their faces.

Huh? As of June 2014 the Department of Employment estimated almost 400,000 legal foreign workers in Thailand and another 2 million or so illegal ones. The scale of the two economies isn't even remotely comparable.

NOPE:

attribute that to the crack down on workers working without a wp

does not mean their are more foreign workers

just the ones that were working were forced to get a wp/wink.png

OK guys, point taken, but with a population 1/4 that of Thailand it wouldn't take much to lift the quality of life for the average Cambodian. With the rising labour costs of Thailand, the political uncertainty etc etc Cambodia could be attractive to both business and tourists to the detriment of Thailand.

Egg already on their faces just hasn't dried yet...

Cambodia is more tourist and business friendly. Good advice for you diehard stepchildren of Thailand. And if you miss hind titty from Thailand it's just a 45 minute flight away.
