Report Cartoon Chaos: Thai Taxi Driver's Erratic Behaviour Unleashed
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod A Thai woman’s journey from Kanchanaburi to Pattaya descended into chaos as her taxi driver watched cartoons while driving, argued incessantly, and tried to eject her from the moving vehicle. The incident came to light when TikTok user @alin_6236 shared a video yesterday, capturing the driver's alarming behaviour. The trip, initially contracted for 3,200 baht (£74 or $90), began with an unexpected early pickup at 11am instead of the agreed 6pm. Alin and her family decided to leave early, unwittingly setting the stage for a nightmarish ride. "Everything started calmly," Alin recounted. However, she soon awoke to find the driver distractedly watching cartoons on his phone while navigating the M81 expressway. Concerned, she contacted the taxi company, prompting a call to the driver that inflamed the situation. The driver’s mood soured further, causing him to rant about traffic and his job pressures. Despite pleas for a quicker route due to her discomfort, his reactions were erratic. "I asked him to speed up because I was in pain and had forgotten my medication," she explained. "Instead, he diverted through Bangkok, extending the journey by two hours." The situation worsened on Rama 9 Road, as Alin repeatedly requested the expressway. Ignoring her pleas, the driver complained of traffic issues. By the time they neared Suvarnabhumi Airport, Alin's patience wore thin. When tensions peaked, Alin demanded he stop the car. His response was explosive. "He refused, and when I threatened to call the police, he yelled, ‘I can’t take it anymore!’ and stopped abruptly." Panic ensued as the driver attempted to eject them, opening the door mid-drive and swerving alarmingly. Chased on foot, Alin and her companions felt fearful for their safety. The driver eventually dumped their luggage and drove off. Social media reactions were divided, with some criticising Alin for overreacting, while others condemned the driver’s reckless behaviour. Alin is now advocating for accountability. "This man is dangerous on the road," she stated. "Were we wrong to speak up?" This unsettling incident raises questions about passenger safety and driver conduct, highlighting a pressing need for improved regulations and accountability within Thailand's taxi industry.
