Criminal Court begins hearing against Thaksin Shinawatra for allegedly insulting the Army

Featured Replies

So if they can run this charge without him being here to hear it read out, why cant they proceed with his other outstanding charges?

"the military coup staged by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) was backed by the Privy Council."

To refute this vile accusation, several generals testified they don't give a darn what anybody outside of the army thinks. They pointed to long tradition of army overthrowing governments. To require backing of Privy Council or any body would make them appear weak.

They then brought in some special forces men who demonstrated they could fight their way out of a paper bag.

Is this a LM case? Why 112. Should it not be the Privy Council Prem who should be filing the charge but didn't. Strange charge.

To say that Thaksin committed Libel by saying the privy council was behind the coup , is a very lame accusation .

That man would not do it

Lord have merci !!

This general cry baby guy needs an adjustment.

Lots of fingerpointing lately, means what ?!

"The Army commander-in-chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr brought criminal charges against Thaksin on May 26 over his interview to foreign media accusing the military coup staged by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) was backed by the Privy Council."

Hmmm... isn't that more of an insult toward the PC than the army???

I think this message got scrambled and should have read Insulted ALLEGED army !

Well Jeepers.. I must admit.. this is really reaching for it..clap2.gif

Why do people keep looking as if Thaksin wants to come back? Has he actually said he wanted to return and ru(i)n the country?

You really have a shallow understanding of recent Thai history.

So if they can run this charge without him being here to hear it read out, why cant they proceed with his other outstanding charges?

Exactly the question I was going to ask.

I think there are 3 possible answers:

1) due process of law does not permit trial in absentia

2) those extra charges he accumulated are weak cases

3) justice in Thailand is an oxymoron

I just put in #1 for laughs. I'm thinking it's #2 and #3 in some combination.
