PATHUM THANI: -- Unsatisfied by the truck it ate earlier this month, a northern Bangkok road Saturday consumed the grading vehicles sent to repair it.

The canal-side road in Pathum Thani split open on Saturday, knocking down the street roller and grading vehicle repairing it nine days after it swallowed a truck.

No one was injured in the incident.

The road had undergone temporary repair and was in use again when subsidence blamed on drought caused another three meter split to happen.

Highway Department: all canal-side roads at risk of collapsing during drought

BANGKOK, 20 July 2015 (NNT) - The Provincial highway authorities have warned that all canal-side roads are in danger of collapsing as the drought crisis has dried up canals across the country.

Motorists are advised to drive slowly and with caution alongside canals. Truck drivers are urged to avoid certain routes due to strong possibility of subsidence.

Many canals in Pathum Thani have dried up, leaving barely any traces of water. A number of cracks have been reported on canal-side roads, but vehicles have not yet been prohibited to pass through.

Local highway units have prepared mobile teams to survey warning signs in risky areas. Residents living near canals are also urged to look out for signs of a road collapse and report them to the Rural Road department hotline number 1146.

Ok, so you have a road that collapsed. You send out Thai experts (??) to fix it. Well, the sorta do, then leave a heavy-assed grader parked on over night, and it collapses again, this time taking the grader.

I swear, you could NOT make this crap up if you tried!

That is the beauty of Thailand, you don't have to make stuff up, it's a constant work in progress.

California freeway bridge collapses.

LOS ANGELES — An elevated section of Interstate 10 collapsed Sunday amid heavy rains in the California desert, injuring one driver, stranding many others, and halting travel for thousands by cutting off both directions of a main corridor between Southern California and Arizona.
"Interstate 10 is closed completely and indefinitely," said Terri Kasinga, spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation.
A bridge for eastbound traffic about 15 feet above a normally dry wash about 50 miles west of the Arizona state gave way and ended up in the flooding water below, the California Highway Patrol said, blocking all traffic headed toward Arizona.
From the above comments, which one of those would apply here? whistling.gif

This is probably the biggest different...

Yes, nature takes its toll... The human preparation for and response when nature 'misbehaves' seems to be quite different.

You are absolutely correct!
My point is that today it seems roads have become hungry all over the world sans any borders.
But the 'flavor' of the comments vary according to the geographical location of the incident & the commentators! - Not ONLY regarding Thirsty (SIC) roads, but about everything in general.
Isn't that a pathetic and sickly trait of our human nature which has been existing for centuries?
Although the mind develops, seems the original foundations are unchangeable...
