R N R Chain, Frequency

Featured Replies

Aloha Gents,

How often do you R n R your chain? Generally, after all the final adjustment on the stay, or the the more than 1 inch play on the chain to sprocket or what ever gauge.

Thanks

Rhys , have a carefull look at the shape of the sprocket teeth from the side . If they look "lop-sided" , or hooked , than replace both sprockets and chain . If you pull rearwards on the chain , at the rear of the rear sprocket , it will come "slightly" away from the sprocket . If it pulls off about half the height of the sprocket teeth , or more , then everything needs replacing soon . There is a "measurement ruler" to measure the chain stretch , but i just go on the look and feel .

If the properly sized chain is all the way back on the adjustment stay and yet is too slack, then replacement is indicated.

Or if there are "tight spots" that indicate the chain cannot move freely due to rust/bad condition.

I thought R&R was a military term for Rest & Relaxation.

Guessing Ride N Replace?
