Work permit/non-b advice required

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like some up-to-date information regarding work permits and non-b visas. To set the scene, I'm currently waiting on my school to submit the relevant paperwork to the labour department/office so I can get the application submission letter for the non-b visa I am planning on getting at Vientiane at the start of next week. Yesterday, I booked a flight to Udon Thani for Sunday midday. My plan is to travel to Vientiane from there, taking the 200 baht bus to the border, paying $30 for the Laos visa, then waiting till Monday to go to the Thai Embassy/consulate (not sure which it is) to submit all the relevant documents to immigration to hopefully receive my non-b visa the next day and trot off back to Thailand.

I have so far provided my school with my degree, transcript, police clearance, medical, and they have done what they need to do with my passport. Today I was asked, by school, for a university provided list of graduates, from my graduating year, with my name on it. I am completely unaware of such a thing, and this wasn't necessary during my last non-b/work permit process. I have already gotten in contact with my university, and am hoping for some assistance on the matter, but as I need this 'document' by Friday at the very latest, so everything can be submitted to the labour office to receive the application submission note in time for my Sunday flight, I'm not holding my breath.

The woman who is in charge of preparing all the necessary documents is unfortunately both slow and poor at her job.

My question is: are there any documents that I haven't mentioned, that are necessary for either a work permit and/or non-b? Also, my current tourist visa will run out on Monday, 3rd August. If everything went tits up for me this weekend, yet I still managed to get to Laos on the Wednesday (29th), would I be issued with a non-b on 3rd August (next working day after the 27th)? Obviously I'd no longer be in Thailand, so if worst came to worst, I'd have to stick it out in Laos for a while till the embassy reopened to receive my non-b, if granted.

UK passport by the way.

update: university confirmed no such list exists, as well as being unable to provide one if it did, due to the data protection act.

The document you've been asked is an unique requirement of your school. Not needed for either a visa, extension of stay or work permit.

You can leave anytime until midnight of Aug 3rd. So if you apply in the morning you would receive your visa in Laos the 4th.
