SIM Card deadline, no airport delays and all the national & local news, from Fabulous 103FM

Featured Replies

The sim card deadline is approaching fast, nobody I know has registered and I have no intention of doing so unless they cut my service first.

Honestly I can't see the phone companies cutting of millions of phones (and hence multiple millions in revenue).

IF they cut me off I will go register. But not until they do.

Up to you

Took me about 2 minutes to register and that included waiting in line.

You will have to buy a new sim and have to change your number

the same thing happened about 10 years ago. I registered. I am fairly certain I had a pre-paid card at that time. The shop I did it with was a bit confused and sort of annoyed with having to do it, but they did it.

and then nothing happened. I mean: we heard nothing after that.

since then people who bought pre-paid cards were obliged to register name and address. I know - I bought a few for various reasons. Sometimes they captured data but not always. now I am post paid. so, if I am post paid then they have my name and address and passport etc., or at least the phone company does.

I get tired of all the willy nilly collection of very personal data like passport details, address, marriage status, dependents, $$, work details, and so on... to so many people or companies for any stupid reason. why does the bank want a copy of my passport every time I need to use the damn restroom? it is the same for Thais. Identify theft has huge potential here. and with no controls or insurance on credit cards or debit cards and courts as they are, it is a wonder why we dont hear more.

May I point you to some mis-information? You will be able to receive calls, but not to call out until you register. No reason to spread panic.

...and in recent news (2 days ago)....Apple and Samsung have announced that removable sim cards will shortly become a thing of the past with their new range of phones....the new phones will have an E-card permanently installed in the phone...with no need to change it (in fact it is unremovable) should you opt for another network service provider....plus other benefits........

Now will this kick off another round of "registering"....??

Also a question...what is to stop somebody providing a false address when "registering" under the current system???

....and.....most 7/11 shops have absolutely no idea about this registration......yet we were advised we could register our Sim cards at 7/11's

Why have a phone that you can not call out on

I recently registered a phone and tablet number using a photocopy of my passport but wasn't asked for an address.

The point is swampdonkey that you will not have to buy a new sim or get a new number.

I'm annoyed at this new rule that says i need to register again, I registered years ago the last time it became the rule but apparently that does not count.. so now I will dig in my heels and not register until I need to do so. If everybody did the same it would cause chaos and the government/junta/dictatorship may think twice about introducing such measures in the future.

Are you sure you are still not registered?

I know people who registered with Ais

years ago and they are still registered.

You can send a text message to find out .

no you don't have to buy a new simcard.

just came back from registering at AIS, all they did was taking a picture of my passport. 1 minute all done!

thaisabai

will this be like at the airport last week with hours of delay with new rules on X-ray machines? sounds good on paper... lets see what happens.

I registered months ago as i did not want to lose the number. Took five minutes at AIS.

I am sure people will hit Facebook and Twitter with their stories as Thais phones will still work, or not.
