My first post for help on here. I did scan through some existing threads to see if I could find an answer, but there are so many and I don't have all day to spend, so if this has been covered already I apologise. If that is the case perhaps someone would be kind enough to provide me with a link. Thank you in advance.

My son arrives 03 November 2015, he will (plans to) enter Thailand on a visa on arrival basis. His return flight is booked for 6 months later (1st May 16). He is initially visiting with me, but will leave Thailand before the expiry of his visa. He will be visiting Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia (possibly Singapore too). He will come back to Thailand a few times, each time by air for a 30 day VOA (except maybe by land from Laos for a 14 day visa).

My questions are, when he first arrives, will they question his 6 month until return flight, will they demand proof that he does not intend staying in Thailand the entire 6 months, what form should this proof be?

He is not keen to plan and book the whole of his trip, but rather wants to just go as and when he feels it's time (within the constraints of visa rules for each nation).

I think the fact that I live here (based on marriage) the past 6 years, means he would qualify for a Non-imm O visa from UK to visit family, but whilst that would certainly be the best way as far as I can see, he does not want that additional expense, being 24 and travelling on a tight budget.

Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome, thank you.

He would get a 30 day visa exempt entry not a visa on arrival.

The airline may not allow him go board his flight to here without a ticket out of the country within 30 days. If he plans on leaving with those first 30 days he should buy a ticket for his first trip out. A one way ticket would be accepted.

He will get a 30 day visa exempt entry at a border crossing since he is from the UK (G7 country rule).

If he wanted to stay longer than 30 days he could get a 30 day extension at an immigration office.

I was stopped by Qatar airways at Heathrow 3 weeks ago for the very same reason,I stepped out of the check in area and booked a cheap ticket to Phnom Penh which was accepted.
