I guess i am a stick in the mud, i get an operating system learn it, and if it is stable .. stick with it until truly obsolete.

I had NT until 4 years ago, and they will have to take Windows 7 from me forcibly.

Microsoft tends to shoot first and aim later, and treats their first waves of installs as test subjects for whom they honestly care noting about.

I am a 100% Windows / PC guy, but sometimes ... Microsoft is simply moronic because they can make the most simple things so difficult.

My primary frustration is when you do need help, and go to their site, they provide definitions to the problem, not solutions.

My favorite hair pulling event is when they glibly say, go to the (whatever) menu .. but do not tell you it is 5 layers into another menu.

In short .. don't do it. Wait until after Christmas and let the millions of others work the bugs out.

text book projecting.

"text book projecting."

This is one of the most interesting comments I have ever seen, and ironically hypocritical.

I believe that most would agree that when we share our opinions about restaurants, movies, vacation resorts, ... pretty much anything really .. we are "projecting" our life's experience and preferences.

Your reply is odd, and it is very "2015" to take the criticism of a computer operating system and the methodology to support it .. personally ... unless you are Bill Gates?

By the way, please tell me why I have received a steady stream of security and performance upgrades over the past 4 years...wasn't Windows 7 bullet proof and ready to go?

So "Bill" .. sorry to offend you sharing an experience .. oh, about 50,000,000 people can relate to.

Try and have a better day, Yes?

In case you haven't noticed, everything gets patched.

Windows more than others because it is the hackers primary target.

It's a fact of life.

This week it was announced that remote connection to cars is possible and they are going to demonstrate how they can take control of a car while on the road and control steering, brakes, etc.

There is no such thing as unhackable software.

Thank you for the face palm.

REALLY?

The point here is unless yu have a genuine need for an OS upgrade, the longer you wait to do it... the more stable the system will be .. via patches etc. And who said there was "unhackable software?"

God, does anyone read before they post?

Look at what I said.

Shoot first, aim later, Thai Visa.

i mean, yes, of course, if you have time to fiddle around over the next year and help Microsoft tweak this .. enjoy.

You've obviously missed the point that it's been "fiddled around" with by millions for the past six months.

That's why they were comfortable announcing the release date.

And us "fiddlers" get it first, so if there are any deal breakers you will know about it soon enough.

With the launch of Windows 10 less than a week away, here’s what you can expect to find when the operating system launches on July 29. It’s not quite as simple as “Windows 10 will be available that day.”

Windows Insiders (read: Windows 10 preview testers) will get first dibs when Windows 10 launches on July 29, while everyone else will see a staggered roll out over the following days.

EXACTLY.

the person who started this thread did not say "I love to fiddle around with software and waste my life doing the job MicroSoft should have done."

They wanted to know if it was a good idea to load it.

I am saying, if you like your current OS, what bother? And why waste time as a beta tester for MicroSoft.

You see, for some of us, a computer is a tool, like some people see a car. they just want to get in and drive.

Others, like you, are "backyard mechanics' and like to fiddle around to get it running right.

neither is bad .. but i am answering the thesis question here, and you are not.

He (we) do not want to pop the hood every morning to get it running, we want to turn turn the key and go, and know ... it will not crash.

Understand the difference?

Yes, I read:

"By the way, please tell me why I have received a steady stream of security and performance upgrades over the past 4 years...wasn't Windows 7 bullet proof and ready to go"

And that's just BS plain and simple. No software is "bullet proof".

As for "the longer you wait to do it", frankly that's rubbish too, because W10 on release day will already be more secure than a fully patched W8.1 because of the new security features added to it.

Yes I do read before I post. Maybe you should try thinking before you do.
