Sheryl
Poipet (the Cambodian side) is a serious dump and a lot of very sleazy characters. Probably the best bet for lodging that is clean and secure would be one of the casino hotels. If you do not have to spend the night in Cambodia for some reason there are many fine accomodations on the Thai side of the border. I like Ban Sabai guesthouse, about 1 km from Rong Klua on the left hand side heading towards Aran, under a tire sign...comfortable wooden bungalows But plenty of other places as well, including some boutique hotels, all on that same strip of road leading to/from Rong Klua. tezzaaa
Hi, Thanks for your help. Unfortunately we need to stay in Cambodia one night. Do you know how I can find casino hotels? I can't seem to find anything on htel.com or Google Best wishes
Sheryl
I think mostly you need to just show up, preferrably not on a weekend as that is when they get most crowded. This thread has some info on several of the hotels (prices likely a bit out of date): http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/328968-poipet-casino-hotels-for-visa-run/
mike2011
Sheryl is spot on. Poipet has a bit improved but is not a nice place, especially after dark. With kid? Forget it. Alone the dust will make you shiver. Food is also not as good as in Aran. If you are not in too much of a rush you could go on to Svay/Sisophon about 45 minutes further on and spent the night there. This would allow you to visit one of the major Khmer temples, Banteay Chmar, north of Sisophon. Very quiet and nice. They even have a home stay. Look for some photos on the web. You might like it. TheSiemReaper
Banteay Chhmar is awesome, not sure that a homestay is perfect for a young couple with a kid either though.
