Anyone else have an issue like this? Before my wife and I purchased our townhome we were told we could choose whatever ISP we like. Turns out that's not the case.

I've heard of this with apartment rentals and condominiums, but entire communities as well? Ridiculous.

There's only 39 homes in our village but everyone has a choice of what provider they want for internet or cable TV.

Do you know that for a fact or someone says? Expect if you are talking about a gated private community they could have such restrictions for landlines but if in city expect WiFi would likely be an option or use of mobile phone systems.

It's a fact. After we had purchased the home, I went to 3BB & TRUE and both said they didn't offer service. I asked the sales office about this and they said "dung chai TOT". They also told me that we were given the wrong information by the previous sales officer (who since getting pregnant left the company).

That sounds like it could also be a True/3BB issue - they do not service everywhere so might just be there decision not to supply. They normally run there lines in specific areas so without customer demand, or the luck of there coin toss, service may not be available.

Are you looking for ADSL or fiber optic cable? Cable is very restricted.

When I moved into my western Bangkok moobaan in 2008 my choice of internet service providers was TOT, TOT, or TOT. Well, I could get JINET at a significantly higher price than TOT but the service was still provided over TOT lines. It wasn't until mid 2011 that True installed cable internet/TV in the moobaan. So, since mid 2011 I have the choice of two internet providers, TOT or True. I was originally with TOT (remember, no choice) but switched to True in mid 2011...been happy ever since.

Have seen quite a few posts over the years where folks are limited to maybe only one internet provider as that provider has rights to a certain area or condo building...or other internet providers just don't want to invest infrastructure into a certain area/building if allowed. TIT

I guess 3BB and AIS now have lines in our community now. When we spoke with the office they definitely made it sound as if we were restricted to TOT, we also have friends who live in condos by the same company and they have to use TOT.

As of yesterday, I'm signed up with AIS Fibre, and it's working great. Hopefully it stays that way!

IMLE, with new housing developments (town-house, free-standing house), they sometimes have exclusive arrangements (if only to limit the amount of cable and fiber hanging on their poles), but more often than not, open things up to multiple providers because owners are more educated and demanding now. So first-movers like AIS AirNET might go in first (easy installation), then 3BB, True, maybe with copper, then with FTTx etc. AIS is definitely making a strong push on the FTTH front; this may draw the ire of competitors, and attention of the regulator?

Multi-story buildings present other challenges, and often you'll find that, if only due to riser space, service providers are limited to one.

Don't expect all isps to be there when number of customers as low as 39!

My mooban (not a village in English Terms!) has 295 houses, but we have TOT adsl and True Cable internet only. 3BB tech refuses to service fttx via VDSL2 due to my house far from 200m vdsl2 line they can deploy (for free?). AIS provides only Airnet, no fibernet.

However, True works perfect in combination with my l2tp IPSec custom VPN at singapore. I get max. download speed even at prime time most days.
