Phra Pattara Ariyo, the abbot of Na Thawee Temple, where 150,000 baht was stolen on 26 July 2015.

SONGKHLA — Two men who stole 150,000 baht from a Buddhist temple in southern Thailand have reportedly repented their action and plan to return the money, the temple’s abbot said.

Phra Pattara Ariyo, the abbot of Na Thawee Temple, said CCTV footage shows the two men entering the temple compound on 26 July and stealing at least 150,000 baht from a donation box in the monk’s residence. Phra Pattara filed complaint to the police on the same day.

Speaking to reporters today, Phra Pattara said he has been contacted by relatives of the two thieves, who said the men regret their action and would like to return the stolen money in the next "3-4 days."

"The reason for their decision to return the money is because they feel repentant. It's sinful money.

Nice to see but despicable to even think of stealing from a temple, so i say still prosecute.

That's the spirit! The true buddhist spirit!

No doubt the thieves will make merit by returning the money they stole.

What the hell is a monk (Abbott or not) doing with 150,000 Baht in his residence, small change for cigarettes and soft drink? The mind boggles.

It said up there it was in a donation box in the monk's residence.

They should empty it a little more often I guess.

It was probably Petrol money for the E class out the back!

Three or four days? Can't be feeling that guilty. What are they using the money for for the next 3 or 4 days?

"The reason for their decision to return the money is because they feel repentant. It's sinful money.' Very true - a temple with that kind of money lying about whilst their parishioners struggle to feed their families is sinful indeed. When will Thais wake up to the fact that it's not only the politicians; the police; the armed forces; but also organised religion too?

Thieves????.... Well there are plenty of them, practically untouchables, RIGHT AT THE TOP of the HI-SO CHAIN, those who must not be named...... wai2.gifwai2.gifwai2.gif

It takes 4 days to return the money? Are they wiring it via international banks?

They've probably made a quickie, 1-week loan with it and will make 15000 profit. They have to wait till the debtor pays it back.

Either that or they spent it, and are now looking for a lender.

I do hope that Buddha's not seeing all that's going on in his name....... I'm always amazed how many Monks are in Panthip plaza buying electronics........ Don't they have a direct line ????

The nice man who sent them an e mail explaining he needs 150,000 bt to free up his swiss accounts containing 70,000,000,000 dollars hasn't sent them the 2,000,000 he promised them yet.

Apparently the bank is closed for a few days.

ITS NICE TO READ THAT THE THIEVES RETURNED THE MONKS MONEY, OOPS SORRY I MEAN THE TEMPLES MONEY BACK
