carlyai
Thinking of going to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games. Anyone know the area? Which airline to fly from Bangkok, where to get accommodation at about B 1000/2000 per night, or is that too cheap? Need to be within walking distance of Olympic venues if that is possible or by rail or bus. Any suggestions on which company to buy venue tickets from? How much money, what currency to take? Like to do some tours while there. Any help appreciated.
craigt3365
You should do a Google search first. A lot of this info is out there. Looks like the venues are spread out all over the place. Security will probably be an issue. Huge crime problem in and around Rio. Sounds like fun though! FYI. For me, I'd probably base myself in Barra. Copacabana is much more expensive. But potentially more fun! LOL
dddave
You'll need to add an extra "0" to your proposed hotel budget...and even then, you'll be on the low side. Rio is most definitely not Bangkok.
KhunBENQ
Just one example from Germany, package with flight and 4 star hotel at C.c., some sightseeing. One week starting at about 5000 Euro per person (two in a double bed room). Single occupancy add about 2000 Euro. 5000 Euro is about 185'000 Baht. And seems no tickets included. Flight from BKK is usually much more expensive and a very long distance (more than 16000 km). I would estimate a start budget of 200'000 Baht + tickets. Packages from another agency: ("ab" = from) Still no tickets included. Tickets start around 20 Euro for 1st round events. 100 m final up to 395 Euro. I tried a few searches for package tours from Thailand agencies to no avail. Edited July 30, 2015 by KhunBENQ
KhunBENQ
Return flights THIS August are roughly 100'000 Baht in economy. Expect a significant rise for the event next year. Total flight times about 25h to 30h each way. Definitely best connection is with Emirates. 1 stop, outbound 21:50h, inbound 24:24h. 178'000 Baht return this August in Economy.
