Can someone clearly define the difference between:

1. khrueang kaeng (เครื่องแกง) - and

2. nam phrik kaeng (น้ำพริกแกง)

Do both these terms mean "curry paste"? Can they be used interchangeably?

For example, a very reliable source advises that on the internet references can be seen for both:

khrueang kaeng leuang and nam phrik kaeng lueang - and both - khrueang kaeng kari and nam phrik khaeng kari

Is this a regional thing?

The same source also advised me that the RID indicates the following definitions:

KHRUEANG KAENG

Khrueang kaeng. Noun. Things which are used in the task of cooking curry including, for example, chillies, shrimp paste, shallots, garlic.

NAM PHRIK

Nam phrik ... seasoning for KAENG PHET, KAENG KHUA or KAENG SOM.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

After this has been confirmed, I feel that I will be in a much better position to clarify the terms for YELLOW CURRY.

Thanks for your help.
