New taxi rate ceiling for provincial taxies set

BANGKOK: -- The Land Transport Department has adjusted the ceiling of taxi fares for taxies registered outside Bangkok to not more than 100 baht from 50 baht for the first two kilometers, 20 baht for the next kilometer instead of 12 baht and five baht per minute in case the taxies get stuck in traffic gridlock.

BANGKOK: -- SEVERAL roads will be closed for the "Bike for Mum" rehearsal tomorrow, including Si Ayutthaya, Ratchawithi and Vibhavadi-Rangsit. Motorists can contact the Traffic Control and Command Centre's 1197 hotline for more information.

Held to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's birthday, the "Bike for Mum" event scheduled for August 16 will be led by HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Her Majesty turns 83 on August 12.

The Crown Prince has also granted 100,000 commemorative pins to mark this special occasion.

Deputy Bangkok city clerk Jakkapan Phiew-ngam said yesterday that citizens had registered for these pins and all of them had been reserved.

"The registration only started on Wednesday," he said.

Jakkapan added that people could pick up their pins on August 14 and 15.

Foreign affairs ministry confirms it has continuously helped Thai crew men in Indonesia
