PHUKET: Phuket City police have arrested a 32-year-old serial snatch and grab thief who preyed on Myanmar women because he believed they would be too scared to report the thefts to police.

At 8:30pm on Wednesday (July 29), Phuket City police held aheld a press conference to announce the arrest of 32-year-old, Ronnachai Tongkum from Nakornsawan who was wanted for theft using a getaway vehicle.

Speaking at the press conference, Lt Col Somsak Tongkleng, revealed that Ronnachai was wanted following the issuing of an arrest warrant by Phuket Provincial Court on Wednesday for the theft of a gold necklace which took place at 3:50pm on Tuesday (July 28) on Srisutat Rd in Rassada.

“We investigated Ronnachai following a theft report filed by one of his victims.

“An officer spotted him walking down the road near his home in the Sapanrum Community 2 on Srisutat Rd so they approached him and presented him with the arrest warrant,” said Lt Col Somsak.

Ronnachai admitted to police that he had committed the theft and that he had sold the necklace for B7,800 to a gold shop in Vichit.

Police went to the gold shop and recovered the gold necklace and escorted Ronnachai to Phuket City Police Station.

Ronnachai told police that this was his fifth theft and that he only targeted Myanmar women because he believed his victims would be too afraid to go to police and report a crime.

I thought 'snatch and grab' was a profession reserved for the local ladyboys?

The 'Raffles' of Phuket.

I say this because he obviously thought 'what would raffles do?' and then did the opposite.

Known to the police, cowardly and stupid.

I think this was the BOLO pic being circulated.

I thought snatch & grab was the term for going into a bar ,paying the bar fine and leaving in 4 mins with yer lady of the night.
