I got the non o last visa run, but im considering trying to get a non o (one year) visa this time.. Would it be possible to get a one year or is it for retirement only?

You are unlikely to get a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa.

You might well be able to get a 12 month Extension from Immigration if you are the legal Father and have 400,000 Baht in the bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income.

2.18 In the case of being a family member of a Thai national (applicable only to parents, spouse, children, adopted children, or spouse’s children):

Each permission shall be granted for no more than one year.

(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must maintain an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month throughout the year or must have deposited funds of no less than Baht 400,000 to cover expenses for one year

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai. You would need to be legal father of your child by way of legitimization to apply. You world also need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income.

You could possibley get a multiple entry non-o visa that would give unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

The only way "income" can be proved is by a letter from your embassy and in your case it would need to demonstrate an monthly income equal to 40,000 Thai Bht / month.

You cannot prove you are the legitimate father of a child unless you are married to the Mother or have legal papers from a Thai court.

I cannot immediately find the link which deals with the legalisation process but I am sure someone will post it for you.

For sure you will need to legitimize your child. I just went through the process. It's a legal process where your gf will need to go to court and claim under oath that the child is yours. They will ask her a few questions also. Typically the process (only of legitimization ) takes a minimum of 3 months but more likely 6 months +. I hired an attorney 15,000 baht (some wanted as much as 70,000 so shop around) and I paid extra to get it expedited. This is the most crucial step in getting your extension with immigration.

There is a whole shopping cart of documents etc you will need besides the legitimization documents (it was hell). I highly recommend you go to the immigration office you will be applying for your extension with and ask them exactly what they want. Ask your gf to come with and make sure she gets this persons contact information. You don't want to bounce around to different agents and them constantly requesting different things. Be prepared to be let down and this process to take a long time. This is Thailand.

If you are ready to marry your gf (legally) it would make everything much more simple. If you're not (like me) expect the process to take a very long time.

Feel free to PM me and I will be happy to guide you through what my process was.

Yes, Pinang is your best bet. The exact amount of money in the bank has been debatable. I've heard as low as 100k baht or equivalent. And it does not have to be Thai bank. you may need the housebook page showing your child's name and id # matching that on the birth certificate. They offer next-day non-immigrant visa service; drop off in the morning, pick up in afternoon. They have a very efficient system there; I'm surprised they keep up with all the volume.

Here is a post with my last 2 experiences: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/754146-multiple-non-o-visa-run-penang-for-visiting-family-success/

as an addendum to 4evermatts post, i have never shown a tabien baan in penang.

i have also never set foot in a consulate. i use an agent called Jim, prpproetor of Jims Place on Chulia street. it is a hole in the wall but jim gets stuff done.

typical visa trip involves checking into yang keng hotel. going by jims (across the street) the night before with my paperwork (he takes photos), hanging out in penang and early pickup the day after submission to make a 2 o clock flight back to samui.

I have never set foot in the consulate, never had an issue.

extra cost for early pickup and submission is about 1500. well worth every penny.
