Chiang Khong visa run

Featured Replies

Hi. I went to Mae sai yesterday to get a 30 day visa from Thailand, as my one expires on the 5th. They turned me away and said that you can no longer do visa runs at Mae Sai, only visa extensions. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's the same at Chiang Khong border? Next month I will be going to Laos, Vientiane. Just need a new 30 day visa. I am from England, so I know I can get 30 days. Just don't want to waste a trip to Chiang Khong and get turned away like I did at Myanmar.

You have a "visa exempt" entry not visa.

Have you extended your original permission to stay at immigration? Another 30 days can be had for a fee of 1900 Bht.

There are no 30 day visas which can be obtained in Vientian.

I have a 30 day visa. I've already extended it once at chiang rai immegration. I want to go Chiang Khong and get another 30 day land border crossing visa. I got turned away at Mae sai, because they no longer do visa runs at Myanmar. I wanted to know if it's the same at Chiang Khong?

As a matter of interest where does one obtain a 30 day "visa"

Yes you can cross here and obtain another 30 day visa exemption.

Not sure if you will be required to produce proof of onward ticket though.

It seems to depend upon what day you go as far as being able to get another visa exempt entry. There was a recent report somebody getting one like you tried to get after getting the 30 day extension.

You should not have a problem Chiang Khong.

Ok thank you very much. Appreciate the comments. I will go there tomorrow and because I'm from England, which is classed as a G9 country,it's 30 days. Some countries are only 15 days.
