Redshirt Leaders Vow Response to Suthep Speech

Suthep Thaugsuban speaks to the media about his future plans at a 30 July press conference held at the InterContinental Bangkok hotel.

BANGKOK — Leaders of the Redshirt movement said they will test the ruling junta’s impartiality by calling their own news conference in response to one held last week by archrival Suthep Thaugsuban.

By allowing the man who led street protests culminating in the 2014 military coup d’etat to broadcast his return to public life, Redshirt leader Nattawut Saikua said on Saturday the military government applied a double-standard and vowed to respond in kind.

Angry that Suthep and his former protesters seemed to be resuming the same political activities – even wearing the same shirts worn during the protests – Nattawut, a leader of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship, or UDD, said it would only be fair for the military government to give his group permission to discuss a topic of their choosing.

“So, next week I intend to invite all UDD leaders to wear red shirts and host a press conference about red-whiskered bulbuls in Thailand. I am sure I will get permission. I will let you know about the details later.”

A government spokesman said it would allow any activity that does not cause unrest or violate its rules. Officials have said they allowed Suthep to hold his news conference on July 30 because it was nonpolitical.

I'd hoped some people here would have grown up by now, but I guess not, they're all just kids in a playground, and bullies to boot most of them.

Some people like to give it out,

But when others fight back, can't take it.

They then resort to threats and violence. A real problem in this country.

If he was going to hold a press conference it might be more appropriate to discuss constructive reform proposals, but then just like yingluck not bothering to go on a TV show to discuss proposals that will benefit the majority they have no concern for the majority. They only think of themselves and a one up man ship on Suthep. This childish approach does nothing for the majority and simply highlights the UDD's absolute disregard for the Thai people by lowering themselves to play ground antics.

If the UDD believe it is not appropriate for Suthep to be making these appearances and discussing reform they could ask Prayut for clarification on the matter so they have a better understanding of what is legal and what is not.

The UDD leaders truly do show symptoms of Munchausen Syndrome with undertones of stupidity when taking this approach. They cannot do anything without bringing attention to themselves in a non-constructive yet highly visible way. When your becoming irrelevant that is the only way to keep your head above water.

Now fast forward to the UDD conference and I can guarantee that just like aa person with Munchausen Syndrome they will not talk about birds, but will break the law, intimidate Suthep, divide the nation and they will be banned again. And when they are banned they will be on the front page of the paper again like the Munchausen Syndrome students stating "See, we are treated differently" while conveniently forgetting to tell the reporter what they actually said that got them banned.

They are so desperate to try to prove a double standard that is not their they will intentionally break the law to try to prove it.

Thank God Suthep is above all of this and is showing some decorum appropriate to an adult.

If the monies stolen over the past decade, by politicians and those citizens /businesses involved, was returned with intrest to the Thai treasury to be used for improvement of the thai country interstructure, education system, etc. The illegally aquired assets were returned to government coffers , including foreign assests aquired via money laundering etc, I would be more than happy to set down and have a friendly drink and share my dinner with them, my treat. I would even turn all the air con on so everyone would be physically comfortable. Probably best to have in cool weather in football stadium as my adobe may be too small.

I really would not care what political party anyone belonged to, their shirt color, their religion, skin tone, preceived social class nor if accompanied by wife or girlfriend. I would request no karoke, mobil phone conversation and drunk, obnoxious people arriving would not be admited and those getting that way would be put in transport to their home or other choice of delivery.

They have to respond, face demands it and both Suthep and Prayuth would know that, maybe the PM has dropped the ball or maybe its all pre arranged.

It does make the banning of shirt colours and political speeches etc by the Junta look stupid and can no longer pretend its unbiased if it reacts to a similar red news conference....

Either way it shows the Junta has lost its hold already and certain other interests like Suthep is attempting to prove his power by flaunting clear rules imposed on political pot stirring.

So the question is really who is manipulating who or perhaps who is getting tired of waiting for who to do what...

Letting Suthep spout his tripe is a clear sign the PM has lost the power baton.

Redshirt Leaders Vow Response to Suthep Speech

yeah, but have they got a spokesperson with a set of choppers like Suthep?? biggrin.png

One of their main spokespersons just got a one year jail sentence confirmed, no bail, no review, for telling lies and untruths.

No, that was PTP spokesperson & it is highly doubtful that they told any lies or untruths, even though the court ruled they did. Most here know what they said about the court's bias was spot on, but this was a court ruling to uphold a defamation case filed by a judge.

Your lack of logic is absolutely astonishing. They told defamatory lies about a senior judge, as decided by not one but two courts.

The first time, because the courts are so incredibly biased (in your opinion at least) they given a tiny punishment, but decided to roll the dice again, and crapped out. The second time they were found guilty, the sentence was more realistic, as decided by the Supreme Court.

Talking about lies and defamatory statements anyone got any idea why not one single general involved in the coup, especially General Prayuth has sued Suthep for his lies and defamatory comments about the coup being planned since 2010 and the general telling Suthep he was tired and it was time to let him (prayuth) take over?

Considering many generals are suing over less trivial issues, in recent months.

Any of you kool aid drinking sycophants want to comment about this? :D

If you have any proof that what he said was factual, present it. Where is the huge bias when they were initially allowed to walk? In your mind?

they were not initially allowed to "walk", they were convicted and the sentences suspended... interestingly enough, this apparently outraged Wasant and the appeals court kept the conviction and removed the suspended sentence...

now, as a follow up, what would constitute "proof" that the defendants did not defame this judge for you? And if someone presented that proof, do you think that they could be taken to court for defamation? This is, after all, LM for judges...

Have you ever read the comments this guy made whilst PTP were in government and then caretaker government?

You should - then you wouldn't make yourself look stupid by suggesting he never told lies or untruths. Next you'll be claiming Thaksin and Yingluck never lied.

In this particular case he made a specific allegation about a senior judge allowing inappropriate people to meet with him during a trial. Not the smartest thing to do knowing the defamation laws of Thailand and likely response. Or maybe it was calculated to add to the attempts to discredit the courts. Or maybe he thought he was above all laws like his boss does. Who knows. But he was found guilty and is enjoying the state's hospitality.

You may never see true democracy here, we have really and truthfully never had it here.

As expected from you .... Nothing to refute nor come back on, just more dribble than a play school full of toddlers !!

The question was about Suthep not Thaksin but then again, you sycophants are far worse at twisting things around, you've lived here so long that you ain't got a a scooby what goes on outside of Thailand, and have the balls to say that we anti Junta members fall for propaganda. au contraire Ginjag, it's not us who've fallen prey to bullshit and excuses!!

You really should try to read what many of my clan as you call them actually say, they are no fans of the junta, and are no fans of Thaksin either, and I'd rather belong to this clan, than one whose been fed on lies and bullshit for decades and still can't see the woods for the trees.

So what part of my post was lies then? The part where Suthep said he and the general had been planning the coup since 2010? If it's lies, why hasn't any junta member, especially the General sued Suthep, he was quick off the mark when the lie about his 10 million baht transfer story hit the media..

So come on, how about you debunk the story about Suthep seeing as what was it you said a week back, oh yeah you've had communications with members of the current Junta... Either Sutheps a liar or he isn't, it's not too hard a question to answer.
