slipperylobster
Might be a problem, when your kid accompanies you back to your country. Immigration might point at your kid and ask..."and who is this young boy"... to which you might, unfortunately reply..."this is my child-porn"... Now you get stripped naked and held in detention...with your lap top tagged for forensics. Not a bright move.
jamie2009
Used to know two brothers, Wilf Huckham and Alf Huckham. Seriously worked with two fellas years ago, Richard Nixon and Mickey Rooney, they got stopped by the police one night, took a them a bit of convincing that was their real names. meltingpot2015
I know a lady whose name on her ID is Pornthip but like most Thais has a nickname, Em, her Mothers nickname is Nit and her sisters is Gunt, have to be careful on that one ! Funny you should mention that name... Alot of my friends call me that - at least that's what it sounds like! Stumbled across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS5mVoqJpUk and this: (see from 9:12 min - 9:19 min) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wozTHxykDwQ
Stocky
On a Thai Smile flight recently the pilot was Captain Kiddiporn. As to the original question, it's always wise to carefully consider the name you lumber your child with.
NoshowJones
Yes, because my Child travels internationally.... Its not a big deal, but its certainly not a name I would choose. When choosing our Childs name my Wife and I had to think carefully about a name which could be comfortably and accurately pronounced by various family members (English and Thai) without any 'double' meanings... What about Gladys, Daphne, Blanche, are they not nice names?
lvr181
If your last name was Head how would you feel if you were named Richard? Sometimes it is about how other people perceive the name.
NoshowJones
If you were Thai and moved to the west, how would you feel about a son named " Jim"? No, not Jim, "Jimmy". In Scotland, if you do not know a guys name, you just call him "Jimmy".
NoshowJones
Maybe if he was a teenager living in the west and never came out of his room. Here not so much. Is Porn a boys name also? Yes it can be either gender...... What about the third sex, would that be OK?
meltingpot2015
You can have a paypal account or ebay account under a penname or pseudonym. (neither paypal or ebay is a bank though) Same way, you can call your child whatever pet name. Registered name on birth certificate is not the same as the pet name. NoshowJones
If I had a Thai wife who wanted to choose any name that was not mutually agreed I'd be very concerned. Your wife could call her the big long four syllable Thai name, then you could give her the nickname. Surely that would be a fair compromise. NoshowJones
In the west would you have a problem calling your son "Dick"? A previous manager of the old Glasgow Rangers FC before they were liquidated was called 'Dick'.
NoshowJones
While working in Denmark I had a work colleague named Bent Monk Olson. At school I had a friend called Dick and a classmate called Pearl Button. I used to know an American guy called Randy who unfortunately introduced himself "Hello I am Randy". My sister christened Frances has been called Fanny all her life. So why should we put unintended connotations on a name? It is stupid. Your second last sentence, I don't believe you, Oh wait! maybe I do, my mate was called Willie.
CapeThai
It's actually pronounced Phom. But yes the english spelling by Thai's is crazy. For example an acquaintance of mine had her Thai ID with the last name of Unaphom. When she went to get her passport made, they changed it to Onaporn. I told her to go back and have it changed but the passport office said their decision is final and cannot be appealed. So it's more like the leader of the country buthering their names rather than the people. Like your signature!!
sipi
I wanted to call our son Phuk, a common name in the North (pronounced Pook). Wife wouldn't be in it.

CALSinCM
No. Why? It is neither spelled that way in Thai (P-O-R-N is a transliteration, not the actual Thai word), and it is not pronounced the way that English speakers pronounce the word P-O-R-N. (I'd write the Thai, but it's against forum rules). The word can mean a number of things including the word "Blessing". And it could also be transliterated to P-O-N.So, out of cultural ignorance you equate "blessing" with "pornography", and you don't have a clue about the proper pronunciation of the word nor it's etymology? Take your cultural biases back home where they belong, or at least learn the language if you plan to stay. What an immensely ignorant post. redandyellow
Sorry to come to the party so late Kris B. My wife's name is Varaporn. In Canada they call her a different name. I'll bet you can guess why. Ya - she's attractive She got tired of receptionists at the doctors or dentists office asking her about her "strange" name. Then she got a bit pissed at me when I would tell the ignorant people with a nice smile that PORN means dress in Thai - but they still rolled their eyes..stupid bitches Best
