I'm in Bangkok on 60 day tourist visa. I want to stay another 30 days but my passport expires in less than 6 months, 11 January 2016. If I apply for the extension will it be rejected? Is my only option to get new passport? Can I just overstay, what would happen when I leave? Not sure if it helps but I'm Australian passport holder. Thank you for advice!

You can apply for the extension with less than 6 months remaining on your passport validity. You just need a passport valid for the length of your permit to stay gotten from the extension.

Why would he need to visit his consulate to get a 30 day extension of his stay in Thailand? His passport only needs to be valid for the length of the extension. Thai immigrations issues extensions, not foreign consulates.
