11 months in Thailand (entering/ staying/ leaving)

Featured Replies

Hello,

so i'm going to Thailand in September on my new Zealand passport but i have multiple concerns :

I am 18 years old and will be staying in thailand for about 11 months, i do have a thai ID card but no passport and my parents are both on different continents. I was planing on entering the country and then getting a thai passport done in bangkok but i read somewhere that my parents have to be with me as i am under 20 years of age (which will be impossible).

Does anyone know a way i could possibly get my passport done? And if that will be enough for me to stay in the country ?

thanks!

Nia

If you are Thai and can prove it, then you can obtain a one year extension of stay at an immigration office .

You could get a passport at the Thai embassy in New Zealand if you're staying with at least one parent and could get a notarized consent form from the other parent and ...

Pretty sure the requirements will be roughly the same if you once get to Thailand and want to apply.

Are you registered in a house book. You will need that to apply for a passport along with your ID card. Requirements are here: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

You will need a parental consent fetter from each of your parents. Letter in Thai. http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/files/services-20120630-195748-510034.pdf . It will need to be notarized at a Thai embassy or consulate.

If you enter on your NZ passport and then get your Thai passport you will have to leave and re-enter the country using your Thai passport.

Since you probably don't have enough time to get a Thai passport before leaving you could get a certificate of identity from the embassy so that you can enter the county as a Thai.

You also have the option of applying for a one year extension of stay based upon having Thai nationality.
