PM insists spending of Thai PBS and ThaiHealth must be audited by government panel

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has insisted that the spendings of ThaiHealth, Thai PBS and the National Sports Development Organisation will be subjected to examination by the government’s audit panel known as the committee to follow up and examine the expenditure of the government sector.

The prime minister made clear on Friday that he had no personal grudges against any of the three independent organizations nor had any intention to cut their funding. But he said he merely wanted the three organizations to observe financial discipline and to ensure transparency in their spending.

He said that the budgetary spending of every governmental agency and organization had to be subjected to examination by the audit panel in addition to the normal auditing.

The prime minister also insisted that the National Council for Peace and Order had never interfered with the job of the Constitution Drafting Committee.

The CDC recently modified the draft charter to make the off-budget funding of ThaiHealth, Thai PBS public broadcaster and the National Sports Development Organisation to be subjected to parliamentary scrutiny.

The committee to follow up and examine the expenditure of government sector was set up on June 3 last year. The 18-member panel is headed by General Anantaporn Kanchanarat, the armed forces comptroller.

One would hope similarly, the military spending also should be scrutinised......they're all part of the government .

But first the august government panel audits the bar tab at the Army Club, a bigger drain on Thailand's exchequer than public health expenditures.

One would hope similarly, the military spending also should be scrutinised......they're all part of the government .

I think you will find they rank somewhat higher than government.

Its called selective scrutiny. I fear for the future of the health care system.

To say it mildly an independant audit would be wiser mr. general bossman.

I found an interview with the Dao Din students... This is just a coincidence?

The money we got to use for activities comes from various sources, but mainly it is funded by the Komol Kimthong Foundation following a project that we proposed to them. This foundation receives funding from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. We also got a fund from our faculty (Faculty of Law, KKU). There is this mechanism we created to receive this fund which is under the Environmental Preservation Club that we are running. But if we don’t have money, of course we use our own money to sponsor our activities.
