So I exceeded the validity of my double entry visa for two days at my second entry. I was really shocked when I saw the date while filling out my arrival card, because my previous multiple entry had six month validity - for three entries. As I got a two month stamp, I wonder :

- stamp is valid?

- officer saw it but stamped anyway?

- 30 days extension no problem?

As already stated, the entry is technically invalid. If you point the error out yourself to immigration within a few days, my guess is that it would be converted to a 30 day visa exempt entry. If you leave normally before it expires, I would anticipate the immigration officer's error for ever going undetected, but this is not risk free. Your idea of asking for a 30 day extension of the invalid entry strikes me as extremely unwise. You would by that time be illegally in the country and, depending on the officers you dealt with, possibly in a world of hurt.

Extension - dismissed

Conversion - dismissed (3 weeks in)

Leaving after 30 days - pending

Leaving after 57 days - pending (assuming the entry stamp won't be matched against the one of many visa stickers date)

Paranoia level - very low (never heard of a similar story and guess many people did the same but never noticed)

drinking coffee over the sticker is of course no option.

As said you can't count on immigration recognizing another office mistake and giving you immunity. So you need to have that corrected at an immigration office. They will give you 30 days visa exempt entry that you can extend for 30 for a cost of Bt 1,900. It doesn't matter that you have been in country 3 weeks already but you need to do that before 30 days from entry.

If you leave after 57 days you can be reassured you will be fined Bt 20,000. You shouldn't count on another mistake to save Bt 1,900.

Why should I be fined for a mistake that's unlikely to be detected? Why should the officer match the visa sticker validity with my last entry stamp? He will check for overstay. that's it. It's still Thailand and not Germany. Not saying it can't happen, but you seem a bit too sure.

And how sure are you about getting a conversion without any problems? Why not arresting me on the spot? Doesn't the need for conversion mean that I'm right now illegal?

Is there any known similar case? I doubt to be the first one, but one of many undetected.

You are personally responsible for what is contained in the passport.

If the passport contains a "stamping error" just visit an immigration office and ask for it to be corrected.

If, on the other hand you, wish to run the risk a fine will be imposed.

It's not unlikely at all that they would check and realize. By the way you would not do any conversion, just an error correction. There is no reason for you to be arrested or even fined, because you would have been allowed 30 days visa expect, and these 30 days have no expired yet. Stamp errors happen ever day, sometime against and sometime in favor of the person. problem is when they are detected post-fact, you are held responsible not them. Unfair for sure but nobody can change that.

Anyway since it seem that you know better and are willing to outsmart Immigration to save Bt 1,900 that rightfully you should have to pay to stay 57 days, be my guest.

..would have been allowed 30 days visa expect..

Wouldn't that make it 27 days to pay when staying 57?

30 days visa exempt is free. 30 days extension to that is Bt 1,900. That is all what you have to pay to legally stay in Thailand 57 days visa exempt.
