O wise ones...

We just moved into a house and they have 2 dishes on the roof 'IPM' and 'Thaikom'.

Do you have this cable tv option at your house? I presume its a matter of simply buying either boxes and then hooking it up? Which one do you rate?

thanks

Your actual choices for Satellite TV are:

TrueVisions

CTH

GMMz

IPM

SUN

These 'providers' also sell 'packages' that can include English Language programming and are specifically available only to their branded box.

(Some DVB-S2 boxes have compatible decoders and package service can be delivered to them as well. Contact the 'provider' for more info)

TrueVisions is probably the most popular amongst the millionaires living in Thailand.

Closely followed by GMMz for the near millionaires, or non-TV watchers.

If you are into sports, those are usually broadcast under license on a 'package' who carries what can change every few years. You'll need to say what you're interested in and ask who carries it.

Generic DVB-S2 box makers like PSI and AJ will receive all the normal Thal Language FTA (Free-to-Air) programming broadcast unencrypted (not scrambled).

There is no additional costs for viewing the FTA channels.

Note: There is more that one satellite that can be received with a small or large satellite dish. Some people find subscribing to a neighboring country's Sat Service gets them what they want (packaged service).

The easiest thing to do is to visit a local sat shop (found by viewing the several small dished out front) and ask them for costs.

If going with TrueVisions, contact them directly for installation and costs.

Lastly, there will be a lot of followup posts suggesting ...Internet, Internet, iptv, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire, kodi, etc, etc, Internet!!

If you have a fast enough connection, it is an alternative to think about.

There are LOTS and LOTS of Topic Threads already discussing this and much more here on ThaiVisa:

Audio/Visual, HiFi and Home Theatre
