espinoza Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 And this police general is not unusual rich??? What salary does this guy have? He is a rich man, on that salary??????
espinoza Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Maybe he became rich before he entered the Royal Thai police. He had so much money and would serve the police because of his patriotic attitude. people like this never stay long on the top.
espinoza Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 the worst employer in the world. The Royal Thi police. They do not afford uniforms, vehicles, motorbikes or guns for their employees. The employee has to buy all this by his own. Thats why I never stops for a poice car, or in many cases pass the policecar in 150 k/m/h. Its just a toy-police, Its not a force of Thailand, its a junk-mafia.
NongKhaiKid Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Nothing here's ever what it seems. Somyot retires next month so is this farewell gift to the farce, sorry force, and why now ? He's been in charge for a while and only now comes up with this direct deal with the manufacturers although I do appreciate he's been busy with his stock portfolio and avoiding making a decision on stripping Thaksin's rank. alfalfa19 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Nice , high quality sidearm. Too bad they will be wasted on buffoons, if they even get that far.
BSJ Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Price list for USA police is here: http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/CmsContent/documents/2015-SIG-SAUER-LE-IOP-Pricelist.pdf
recycler Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 The prices are online and the Sig Sauer 320 is between 425 and 499 US$, so at the current exchange rate the most expensive P320 is 17,530 Baht list price. The 70,000 Baht is nonsense and if you buy 150,000 at once there will be a massive discount, so...... THIS IS KICKBACK TIME!!!!!
bristolgeoff Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 looked on the gun website, the barrell of the gun can be changed to different lengths.also i wonder why they are in hurry the commission is one good reason.i wonder who is in the pipeline for the commission

THIS IS KICKBACK TIME!!!!! 70,000 b is the price in Thailand with all the import taxes and vat added. The price list quoted is for USA police departments. There will be transport costs which for firearms I'm sure are a bit more costly than UPS standard delivery!!
jacko45k Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Their children obviously want something better to take to the karaoke on a Friday night.

For the USA police the transport cost will be in the price too and that won't be much different to Thailand, possible even cheaper. They will easily ship in 6 to 7 x 20ft containers, with the right permits, insurances and security the actual shipping cost won't differ much from a normal shipment. The cargo as such does not pose any hazard to the ship, environment, crew, etc. The 70K Baht shows again how ridiculous the pressure on imported goods is in Thailand
wvavin Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Thai police are simply no brainer! Nothing more to say.
jaycor Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Great, I wonder if they are going to give extra training in how to properly shoot the SIG. It has no external safety, just a two step trigger. I love my SIG P226, but its a tricky gun...
aussieinthailand Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 So they're getting these for just over $500??? Seems really low. Unfortunately the numbers this bloke is coming up with??? retail Baht 70,000 ($1,995) for a Sig Sauer, NOT!!!, try $900, plus tax, which should not be applied. But if he can get them for (Baht 18,000) that's a bargain. But a baby eagle at $630 ( Baht 22,104) Then apply a mass purchase discount, (Baht ???) and a better hand gun. But we all know that's not how things are done in LOS.
tomacht8 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Police reform is here to buy 150.000 new guns for them.

Ricardo Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 150,000 hand-guns ... Wot, no submarines, thrown-in as a freebie ?

IAMHERE Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Why do I think that these guns will be paid for by the masses, 200 baht at a time? My understanding is that the average police person doesn't have 70,000 baht, that many are in debt.
tonysilly Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Why do the police need a gun just to give out fake speeding tickets and smoking fines?
bamnutsak Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 My understanding is that the average police person doesn't have 70,000 baht Price mentioned is 18,000 baht. One assumes that, with financing, a policeman will pay 500 baht/month forever? Could be a nice "franchise" for one to retire with?
NickJ Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Maybe they could fill the barrels and put bright red tips on them................. Or issue air-soft models.

The officers chose the SIG, just as 1 in 3 US police officers have! Edited August 10, 2015 by casualbiker
stephenterry Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I feel so much safer when law enforcement agencies have guns.

Well, in the hope of "transparency", why not just release all these details for the public to review? I am honestly not sure how qualified current Thai police officers are in evaluating firearm options, no doubt some are, especially via a "questionnaire"? Maybe better to set up in independent panel (with citizens representation) to evaluate the mission(s), requirements, budget. Evaluate several manufacturers/models, short-list a few, then have an approved vendor list, of at least two or three models? Or you could just push through a blanket PO while no one is looking, and then deal with the mess for the next 20 years.

The people aren't paying for them with their tax money the police officers are paying for them. Do you honestly think that police forces anywhere else in the world have independent panels with civilians on board to decide on procourment. These are tried and tested weapons not prototype's etc. If the police officers want to buy them I don't see a problem! Ohh and from the few police officers that I've interacted with concerning guns, they are very safety oriented! As I've said before I think that considering approximately 200,000 officers carry guns, police gun incidents in Thailand are very low. Edited August 10, 2015 by casualbiker
