More than 2,200 orders placed for the All-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport within 9 days of launch in BIG Motor Sale, deliveries to start in October along with nationwide roadshow

Mr. Morikazu Chokki, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd., said that the All-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport received tremendous market response. After the global premiere in Bangkok, orders poured at the Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale 2015 (BIG Motor Sale 2015), amounting to over 2,200 units from August 1-9. Deliveries will commence in October while roadshow events will be staged in 52 venues across the nation from August 18, allowing potential customers to experience the new model before it arrives showrooms.

“I sincerely thank every Thai customer for your trust in Mitsubishi products and for choosing the All-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport as your personal vehicle. I am confident that this is one of the best vehicles which are capable of responding to every needs of the owner. We also apologize to customers for the two-month delivery period waiting” he said.

“The company will start displaying the vehicle at showrooms in October but before that Mitsubishi will be staging a total of 37 road show events in the provincial areas and 15 in Bangkok. This will allow customers who are based upcountry (and were unable to visit the BIG Motor Sale 2015 event) to be able to experience the All-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport closely. Those interested can follow up on the details through various Mitsubishi company media or at our dealerships around the country” Mr. Chokki added.

Anyone know of the respective orders for the fortuner and everest at the show as well?

The promoters of that event don't normally reveal sales numbers - so it's up to the manufacturers to release PR's like this, or wait until the end of month figures are available.

Thanks....a few posters here thought the quality of the pjs was well under the everest, so I'm interested to know how many everests were ordered. There's quite a price difference among the top models, though, with the pjs appearing to be good value, especially with the discount on the top model.

I'm going to guess the PJS is the only one they've looked at - all of them, even the Everest, use mainly hard plastics for interior panels.

Range Rover's and Porsche's these are not.

The Everest is the only one with a full soft-touch dash (the 'tuna has a small strip above the instrument cluster), but under dash panels, door panels etc are made from the same grade plastics as everyone else. The Fortuner's dash fails the "knuckle test" pretty spectacularly...

On Everest sales, one point of note is that they have been taking bookings since March - but none of them have yet been reported as sales... And even then, only a few will be delivered this month - most recent bookings won't be delivered until >= October - so it's going to take a few months to see who's winning and who's not.

Or no Walnut Fascia n Cappings. Never been a Plastic groper, plastics plastic to me. Recon the PJS will win out on sales though.Good Value.

You think the PJS will sell more than the Fortuner ?

It may sell more than the Ford, but no way will it outsell the Toyota, this is Thailand, Toyota rules the roost in that segment.

I like the look and spec of the Ford, but being a Tuna owner for nearly 10 years, I can't fault Toyota reliability and service, so I'm hanging onto my Toyota, just have to keep away from Ford showrooms, I really do like the look of the new Everest but I know I'd have buyers remorse at some stage with the Ford, in nearly 10 years of owning the Toyota I have never regretted it at anytime, maybe the fact that nothing has ever gone wrong in that time sways my opinion, and even my old Fortuner is still a great truck for Thailand.

I removed the rear seats years ago and have a large motor with lots of rear storage space, that goes anywhere and seems bulletproof, it's a Toyota Pick Up with a different body, nothing else needs saying, it really has been great for Thai roads and tracks and Farms, and ploughed fields, in fact it has never once let me down in any situation or conditions.

I don't too much like the look of the new Toyota Fortuner compared with the Ford Everest, but if i were in the market for a new Truck, I'd go with the Toyota simply for the reliability and service, let me put it this way, if the Everest was a Toyota it would blow the competition away and break all kinds of records for sales, like I say, I just have to stay away from Ford showrooms, I'm an impulsive type of guy, and would certainly be tempted. sad.png

The PJS has outsold the Fortuner on numerous months before, so it's not beyond reason it could do so again.

If you're happier to drive an inferior product for better perceived reliability (no facts in that are established yet), that's up2u I guess. Make sure you harden up your anti-Ford/pro-Toyota views though, so you don't suffer a big bout of buyer's remorse :)

It seemed to me the issue in the past was the supply of spare parts by ford. Earlier cars seemed to have parts made all over the world, and not in Thailand. That makes supply slow. Has there been any change in the supply chain to make deliver of parts faster? Has ford increased local production of spares? That would certainly help delivery times for spares.

I tink Fortuna Owners recon they rule the roost, but PJS Rule the Sales as Bad Kitty says. Recon i may consider one, but Fords got the best spec imho. The noisy Tblazer is past its prime now, so may be a change..

I like the Ford I think on spec it's the best of the available pickup based SUV's available, it's the service, parts and reliability that would worry me, I don't know if Toyota have a problem with spare parts as I have never needed any.

PJS outsold Fortuner, that's really surprising.

I see tons of Tunas on the road, many more than PJS,

Yes The Ford has all the Bells and Whistles Ace, looks great IMO, if it was a Toyota I'd place an order for it today.

The Ford will not sell nearly as good as the others simply because of the terrible and quite justified reputation their after sales services has in Thailand.

The new Fortuner/Hilux, are using brand-new, untested engines and new transmissions - did Toyota ace them first time? Who knows... they didn't with the previous generation *KD-FTV's though.... With the Everest/Ranger, the engines have been in production since the mid 2000's - the 2.2L donated from EU Mondeo's, the 3.2L from global market Transit's - so it should be a fair assumption the bugs have been largely worked out of them by now I guess.

Don't forget the Fortuner has been on sale for a full 5 years more than the PJS (2003 release vs 2008). Also don't forget that up until a couple of years ago when internet accessibility went more full scale, many Thai's only point of reference for buying advice was a family member - and people usually recommend what they bought themselves - that's human nature smile.png With access to more unbiased information, buying trends are changing pretty rapidly.

Ford did re-instate their 24 hour parts delivery guarantee back in 2013 - how does that translate though? Hard to say... not enough of a sample size here to make a survey...

2005 for the Tuna.

I still can't get it round my head that PJS has outsold Fortuner, the roads are awash with Fortuners, maybe we Tuna drivers don't notice other cars . biggrin.png

Note that I said "on some months" - usually PJS sales hit their peak in Jan/Feb - coinciding with a minor change and big marketing blitz. They had a really good time back in late 2011 / early 2012 when Toyota deliveries slowed to a crawl too, due to the flood crisis. Over the past few months sales have been more lacklustre though, as it was no secret a new model was coming - Toyota do a much better job of keeping everyone guessing when they'll launch...

The older Pajero, very much used by off riders tours in Thailand, and named Montero in the US, is a fantastic small 4x4 SUV. It is hard to find one for sale here, specially the newer ones like 2003 to 2005..and I believe that the last one of that class was 2009.

If somebody find a 2005 for sale..let me know.

Talk down the Fortuner all you want, IMO it's pretty competitive the way it is. Yes, Toyota hardly changed it, but that's Toyota, they make only small incremental changes each time.

Perceived quality is one thing to say, quite a different thing when you've experienced it yourself. The only major issue I've had was the turbo, well some engine cleaning, actually, and I think both happened because we did not take care of the motor well at all the first 6 years. We'd just floor it on a cold engine, and we'd just turn it off when it was really hot - mistakes on our part. But with both issues we never were stranded. We just lost some power.

Other than that - this car looks nearly the same as it did 9 years ago. Given the number of things that could fail, it's been pretty spectacular in reliability. In fact keeping our 9 year old Fortuner seems to be a much better deal than selling it and getting a new one... appearances aside the new one doesn't really do anything the old one doesn't. And this car keeps on running...

From hearsay, Mitsubishi is pretty good too. Never heard major complaints. Ford is another story... I'll stay away from that.

Also - the faux burlwood dash was a good investment. Looks as good now as it did on day one. The dash looks better than the cheap versions of the brand new Fortuner. We also have climate control and full time AWD. Removed one rear seat, keeping the other for occasional people hauling.

Must say I agree with you.

Have had my Sportivo now for over 6 years not going to change it either. It still looks like new not even a stone chip.

Only things I have had to do repair wise (If you can call it repairs) in all that time were new wiper blades 1 battery. Just fitted new tyres not worn out they just got to 6+year old and needed changing (Heat)

Unlike you I have taken both rear seats out. First week I had it. Don't need them, now have a big estate just what I wanted in the first place.

Just saw the autoblog preview of the Mitsu. Gosh darn is it ugly. The Ford definetely has it beat in the looks department.

Having just come back from the motor show, where I viewed all 4 large MPV's Mitsu Ford Toyota MUX I thought that none of them were pretty. Just built to do a job.

All had their good points also problems. The major thing about the Mitsu was the build quality with their seats the outstanding one. If they lasted 5 years I would be surprised.

How your butt/legs would feel after a long run Buddha only knows, I wanted to get out after a few minutes just sitting on the drivers one. Bottom swab was much to small for me and I'm less than 6' if your tall large framed you'll be buggered.

Posted

^ Yeah I used to have both rear seats out but now we have a big family so we occasionally have more people in the car. Easy enough to get in/out - these seats are clearly an afterthought.

Battery isn't repairs, I've had to change mine pretty much exactly every 2 years, like it says in the manual ;)

And even then, only a few will be delivered this month - most recent bookings won't be delivered until >= October

Went into Ford Phuket last week and asked "if I book today when can I get car?"

Answer: "Five or maybe six months".

I was genuinely interested in checking it out, but after hearing it would take that long it's more or less off my list.
