I returned from Penang wednesday night.

I used an agent to apply for a tourist visa, I was issued a single-entry Tourist visa.

The agent assured me that as of the previous week, no Double or Triple entry tourist visas were being issued to anyone.

Hope this helps anyone with visa queries.

Can you give me a bit more detail as I'll be doing this in October, my first 'proper' visa after many months of doing monthly visa runs to Burma.

Was the agent based in Penang? How much did you pay? What sort of info (proof of funds, etc) was required?

Ta muchly,

Mark...

My brother is planning the same trip next month and is also wondering what is required. I have no idea as I am on a non-imm("B") and the last tourist visa I got was issued back in my home country.

There are many agents in Penang who will handle visa applications for you, or you can take a taxi to the consulate and do it yourself.

The Continental Hotel is often recommended as a place to stay and Patrick who works there will handle your visa application.

Along Chulia St you will see signs for other agents.

I do not believe that any proof of funds is required to a Tourist Visa.

It remains to be seen if a prior string of 30 day border runs will have any negative effect.

Did you, or can you, pay for same day service - through an agent, or in person?

Thanks

Ihave twice been to Penang to get a non imm "o" visa....and for the princely sum of 20 ringat[200 baht] extra commission... I got the visa the same day....very good value!

Dose anyone have link that gives good info on the process in Penang? I've tried searching the forums but have had no luck.

One question I would have is do you (or your agent) need to be at the consulate before noon? I've checked online with air asia and the earliest flight arrives at 10:30 AM.

Thanks!

Im also looking for info on Penang. Do they still issue 1 year Non Immigrant mutli entry O visas? I plan a trip there with my wife next month, but if i cant get the 1 year multi entry O visa, i dont really wanna waste the money for the trip. How many days and nights do you need to stay as we will be flying down there, untill the visa will be ready?

I've tried it there - seems like if you are coming from Hat Yai, you almost have to wait to two days. Any passports submitted after 1130 wont be processed until the following day. Two nights for sure, unless you can fly in and submit your passport earlier, or hire a van just for you and leave Hat Yai at like 430 in the morning.

If you take the morning Air Asia flight you should have time to submit passport/application and be able to pick up the next day and leave on the Air Asia that (late) afternoon. Be aware of holidays of either Thailand or Malaysia. In this case only one night stay is required.

Although believe Penang will still issue multi entry O visas for those with a history with them (or perhaps extra documents such as money in the bank) the first application appears to result in a single entry (you are expected to extend your stay with immigration).

For multi entry first time KL and Singapore seem to be best currently.

Don't bother with Penang if you don't have the 400,000 Baht to show, just came back good cheap place to stay Crystal Guesthouse 294 Chulia St nearly new, air con ,TV, kettle, private, 45 RM 35RM for shared bathroom, little noisy on the night as it's run by a very nice Chinese family, across the road Hong Ping Hotel around the same price, NJ Bookstore for your visa about 200 metres up from the hotel he got mine back next day before 12 midday when the hotel said it was impossible charges 50 RM . If you come by train around 1200 Baht one way ferry's to the left when you come out of the train station costs 1.20 RM ,taxis from the ferry landing to Chulia around 8RM but better book early and go with Air Asia believe me it's worth every penny Food on the street is really good about 25 Baht a meal, beers expensive in the shop around 65 baht a can but in the bars you'll only pay 70 baht a bottle mind you theres never anyone in them. Komtar centre for any shopping just look for the big round tower within walking distance. Worth noting ATM's do not take visa seems to just cater for locals ,May Bank ( big yellow sign) next to Komtar has a Bureau De Change where you can use your card.
