I have no idea why they seem to be so obsessed with this. Obviously no sleeping dogs saying in Thailand

Which dog do you think is sleeping ?.

Because the one in Dubai certainly isn't.

This loss of face will have him fuming over his coffee in the hotel restaurant.

We've all been reading the red-shirt lunatics here telling us that their communist revolution is coming soon : they are being spoon-fed that line from somewhere. I wonder if Prayuth is trying to nudge Thaksin into making his move while the Junta are still in power and the tomatoes in the police will not be able to shield them.

<snip>

Maybe the reason is that Thaksin has never left. He still controls all his cronies : the 310:0 amnesty disgrace proved that beyond doubt.

The question you SHOULD be asking is whether Thailand would get better with Thaksin removed from the picture entirely.

There would be some disorder while all the greedy lackies fought in the power vacuum but things would settle back down to the average developing-world, corrupt Asian country instead of this ridiculous situation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Kruea-ngam said Thaksin could sue the Royal National Police Office for stripping him of the police rank but could not take legal action against the Council of State because the council merely gave legal advice to the government.

Good plan, as long as it includes mandatory attendance by the complainant when the suit is filed. That will be the end of that, the coward won't show.

What a mixed up dysfunctional legal system, totally geared for the rich and their face problems. They fear a being sued by the former PM, while well heeled, connected murderers walk and it hardly raises and eyebrow.

This is all good for Thailand another plus for the Junta, this is now listed along side of the Taxi clean up , the lottery price , clean the beaches , bike paths , the priorities allocated just astound those in the west and even Russia is impressed, now if they only confined their efforts to more worthy causes instead of Ars! licking , Thailand just might move forward.coffee1.gif

This decision to strip Thaksin of his police Lt. Col. rank when he is long retired , can only be seen as trivial , petty , spiteful and vindictive !!!

There is No legal precendent for stripping a long retired police officer of his rank . The chief of police cannot permit it without a change in the law ; which he will not seek as it would set a precedent that would affect every retired police officer . Serving police officers can be stripped of rank but not retired ones . There might be some point in stripping Thaksin of rank if he relied upon a police pension ; but he is a very rich man and has no need of a police pension , nor even the rank . When the PM professes to wish to be seen as even handed and trying to promote peace , harmony and happiness in Thailand , this determined decision on the PMs part is likely to have the opposite effect . It should be remembered that a considerable majority of Thai citizens are Thaksin supporters ; this decision by the PM to strip Thaksin of rank will only arouse disrespect and contemp among those people . Taking further and further steps to erredicate the spectre of Thaksin in Thailand will in the view of many people only enhance Thaksins image .

Poor T. Now he's got to print new business cards and stationery.

Thaksin Shinawatra's new business card-

no longer a top policeman

a fugitive in exile

a man that works hard to tear apart the fabric of his homeland

a desperado

a megalomaniac

and proud of it all

What is the point of this charade?

For the ultra-rightists (Suthep, PDRC), who sponsored the Coup, this was one of the key goals. They view this hugely symbolic gesture as defeating the politics of the masses and restoring the politics of the "few".

Now someone needs to forward it for Royal Endorsement and Gazetting.

As long as it is not viewed as "political", and can be couched as "legal", then it should be a done deal.

probably:

ex PM

loved by majority of Thais

voted in at every election

vilified by the elite

unelected military junta stripped him of Police rank

so what??? he's not coming back and this obsession with Thaksin, who has not been in power since 2006, is just a great propaganda smokescreen for the real reason all this has happened.

But who cares about the truth eh?

The case isn't over at all and for all the bluff and bs, he was awarded his rank by royal decree and nothing but a royal decree will remove it.

I presume that you can read? go back and read Dear Generals quote again "He stated the Royal Thai Police would soon forward the revocation proposal to the Royal Household for approval, in order to officially strip Mr. Thaksin of his police rank."

so its up to the thai police now clap2.gif

[/quote

Yes I can, did you read what you quoted? What happens pray tell if the Royal Household doesn't approve it? Not up to the police at all if they have to ask for Royal approval now is it.

Has anyone actually any evidence of him rejecting it? He doesnt care, no one cares, exept dear pm. For someone who wants his name forgotten the pm is doing his best to.keep it in the limelight

As a kid running around with your buddies, ever come across something dangerous, that looked like it might be sleeping, or perhaps even dead? Ask yourself why was it always your group's equivalent of the village idiot that thought it wise to poke it incessantly with a stick? And this guy is a trained tactician? Oh boy.

Even his son said something anout "just remove his rank." It carries no weight at all.

Having said that, let's just see how long it takes to remove his rank.

The case is not over. I am pretty sure of that.

Surely his Police rank is not worldwide anyway? He is a fugitive not a serving Police officer.

Pol Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri, the assistant national police chief and spokesman of the RNPO, said the police office would have to check with the human resources department first about how to move next as the case was unprecedented.

Yes, let's now refer the case to the low ranking civil servants in the human resources dept...I'm sure those folks will quickly determine the next step to take in this high profile case.

Besides, what may be unprecedented is any police officer every being stripped of rank.

And more than a few more deserve the same treatment. Surely conviction of a crime (almost any crime, moderately serious) is enough, without resorting to the obvious fact that he was also a fugtive from Thai justice. And yes, all you red-shirt apologists, he was! Resoundingly so!

Voted in at every election as long as he was running as a candidate and also running the election (with the possible exception of his first major electoral victory, when he was NOT PM and able to manipulate the situation.

“ My duty is to submit the case for Royal approval. For the time being, I am just waiting,” said the prime minister."

Just waiting....if that is the right thing to do? Just wait......

"Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Kruea-ngam said Thaksin could sue the Royal National Police Office for stripping him of the police rank but could not take legal action against the Council of State because the council merely gave legal advice to the government."

If the PM want to do something different than waiting, why not change the law that way that criminals must come in person to file a case at court?

I don't think Suthep sponsored the coup. For me it looks like Suthep himself would have loved to be central secretary of his reform cabinet himself instead of going into the temple.

The average foreigner would not understand what the issue is. It is no big deal, just get on with it. However, to the average Thai this would represent considerable loss of face. And as we know, face is everything here.

Ahh the but but but Suthep excuse trotted out once again.

You may not have noticed this but the thread is all about Thaksin being stripped of his police rank and is nothing to do with Suthep.
