Work Permit Extension

Featured Replies

TV Guru's,

Having a slight problem. My 1 year Multi entry visa got refused in Penang on the grounds that i do not have enough months validation left on my WP. basically you need 8 months minimum, i have 5.

The guy at the consulate told me that i can extend my WP. I have inquired into this, and like most things in Thailand, i could not get a straight answer.

Can anybody shed some light on this, can you extend your WP?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know a work permit cannot be extended until it is near expiration.

You may have to get single entry non-b visas until your can extend your work permit.

The annual renewal of a Work Permit process is in fact an extension of the original WP Permission.

Thee have been reports on this forum that certain Labour Departments have allowed early renewal, specifically to help with the Penang 8 months validity issue.

Try approaching your local labour dept and ask if they can renew your WP early.

The most important 'fix' for those following this process is not to use the extra three months extension available just before expiry of an existing 12 month Non Immigrant 'B' visa, as this puts the WP and the Extension 'out of sync'.
