Work Permit? New rules or just new Bullsh*t?

Featured Replies

It's time to renew my work permit and the lawyer/accounting service we use is telling us " the officer in charge is very strict. You need to show 1 million baht a month revenue or they will only give you a 6 or even a 3 month work permit. My partner and I run a small business in Bangkok. We have 2 work permits and 8 Thai employee's. The lawyer says there is no legal requirement to have a certain amount of income but the officer who has signing authority requires us to show 1 million baht income per month. Has anyone heard of this? We use the same legal firm as many Thaivisa members. Is it possible that the officer in charge does not like my legal firm and they are being singled out? The law firms all seem to charge a ridiculous amount for renewing a work permit. To pay there fees every 3 or even 6 months would be a significant hardship. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sounds like BS. SOunds like the law firm is setting you up for billing every three months. You should go to another 1 or 2 other law firms and take your business elsewhere.

You may be right about being set up for a billing every 3 month. That's kind of why I asked if anyone else has heard of this? I would guess my law firm is one of the big 3 or 4 firms that deal mainly with westerners in Bangkok, so I would be surprised if others are not in the same situation.

Wont delve deep here but evidence of income is a requirement exactly how much I at a loss or refuse to comment as well as a stipulated amount of thai staff.

We report income and pay VAT every month as well as the year end and half year audits. We have 8 full time Thai employee's to support our 2 work permits. But we don't bring in 1 million baht a month nor are we likely to in the near future.
