Hi can anyone please tell me what is the law regarding children who overstay. Do they charge children an overstay fine on the airport when leaving Thailand?

No fines are given to minors under 15. That is a provision of the Thai law code.

The children will not be fined but will have an "overstay" stamp placed in their passports.

It is better to ensure that children have appropriate visas prior to entering the country.

but if caught outside of airport, can they be arrested?

No they can't be arrested. Thai law code has the minimum age for punishment at 15. Neither the parents can be fined or arrested.

When older than 15 they would be fined. It takes only 40 days overstay to reach the maximum possible fine of Bt 20,000. There is no jailtime unless one can't pay up and leave.
